#1 Ohio State (6-0) at #2 Wisconsin (6-0)

Chris: Welcome to Madison for a monstrous Big Ten matchup between the no. 1 Buckeyes and the no. 2 Badgers. [crowd cheers] This is a huge Saturday for college football. Not only do we have no.1 versus no. 2 here in Madison but we've also got two undefeated SEC teams that will be tested today. Undefeated Auburn will play LSU. Also, undefeated Tennessee will play the struggling defending national champions, Alabama. We'll have a better idea of who might be on top of the SEC after today. Out in the Big 12, we've got Texas taking on Nebraska in Lincoln. And out west in the Pac-10, Arizona State will try to knock off USC. So we've got a huge day of football. We'll get to all of this and more when we come back.

Chris: Wow! I'm shocked that you both are going with the Sun Devils over the Trojans in the Coliseum. I'll have to disagree with you guys on that one. Well, we now turn to this one here. [crowd gets going] The Big Ten looks like the real deal with Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and even Michigan looked good last weekend. The winner today will be the number one team in the land. However, Ohio State does come in without their star WR Lamaar Thomas who has been out of action since week 5 with a hip pointer that he sustained against Indiana. I understand Erin Andrews has a report on whether Thomas will be able to play today...


Erin: That's right Chris. I sure do. It looks like it will be a no-go for Lamaar Thomas. He will definitely not play today, but there is a chance that he could be ready next week. I spoke to Thomas and he told me that he is confident that Ohio State can win without him. Back to you guys...

Chris: That's bad news for the Buckeyes. He's really been a huge playmaker for them. Can they win without him guys?

Kirk: They can win without him. [crowd boos] Ohio State will have to rely more on HB Mike Tellis to make some plays on offense. I do think it makes it a lot tougher for Ohio State to win today and honestly, I don't think they can do it. Wisconsin is too tough on defense. This is exactly the type of game that the Badgers are looking to get into today. This will be an old fashioned Big Ten low scoring game. Wisconsin wins a close one today. [crowd goes wild]

Lee: How about that Kirk! You picked against your Buckeyes! Calm down now. Wisconsin has maybe the best tailback in the nation by the name of Will Pittman. We all remember him from the BCS championship game a couple years ago against Florida. This kid is fantastic. However, Wicsonsin could have trouble protecting their junior QB Gavin Campbell with an injury to their starting LT. But it should not be that big of a problem because of Pittman. [Lee puts on the Badger headgear as the crowd goes nuts] Go Badgers!

#9 Oregon State (5-0) at Washington (2-3)

Seattle, WA - The Beavers have now moved into the top ten mainly because of a very weak non-conference schedule and an equally weak Pac-10. And here was another weak Pac-10 team, the Washington Huskies, who have not looked any better under Lane Kiffin. It was another cold, rainy day in the northwest where the Beavers would look to stay undefeated.

The Huskies would start the game about as horrible as possible when UW QB Luther Leonard floated a deep ball that was easily intercepted by OSU FS Matt Arnold.

On the other hand, the Oregon State offense looked fantastic on its opening drive. HB Marvin Quinn was finding open holes and QB Bryan Rossner was hitting open receivers. The perfect drive came to an end when Rossner hit WR Alex Whitehead on a deep crossing route. Whitehead did the rest as he side-stepped by a tackle, and scored when he dove across the goal line to give Oregon State an early 7-0 lead on a 36-yard touchdown.

Highlight

The Huskies would look alittle better on their next possession as they got some first downs under their belt, but the Beavers' defense would force a Husky 53-yard field goal attemp that sailed right. It would not take long for Oregon State to respond as the Beavers' offense was looking unstoppable. Finally, OSU HB Marvin Quinn would cut back and find a big hole for a 9-yard touchdown scamper to put the Beavs up 14-0.

Again, the Huskies had some success but the Beaver defense stopped Washington from getting into the red zone, leading to another Husky field goal attempt. This time from 48 yards out and again it was missed to the right as that brought an end to the 1st quarter.

The Beavers looked like they were about to score again early in the 2nd quarter, but Quinn was stuffed at the goal line. OSU coach Mike Riley decided to go for it on 4th & goal from inside the 1-yard line. HB Jacquizz Rodgers was blown up behind the line of scrimmage as the Huskies made a play to keep them in the game.

Washington gained a huge wave of momentum with the goal line stand and it sparked the Husky offense. UW QB Luther Leonard was looking sharp. Then UW HB Demitrius Bronson found some room to the outside for a huge 41-yard gain. The Huskies would take advantage of their opportunity when Leonard threw a beautiful lob in the back of the end zone to HB Demitrius Bronson for a 1-yard touchdown. The Huskies had marched 99 yards and made it look easy to cut the lead to a one score game, 14-7.

An Oregon State drive would end with a three and out when Whitehead could not make a catch in traffic that was broken up. The Huskies would cut the lead further when they finally put the ball through the uprights from 22 yards out as the last few seconds ticked off the clock. The Beavers were only up 14-10 at the half.

The Beavers came out with a bang to start the half as QB Bryan Rossner found WR Brian Herring on a short crossing route that Herring took for a 48-yard gain. However, Rossner would be sacked on 3rd down in the red zone. Thus, Oregon State would only get a 38-yard field goal to go ahead 17-10.

The Huskies had a chance to tie but only achieved a punt back to the Beavers. Sensing that the game was close, the Beavers mounted an impressive, balanced drive. In the red zone, Rossner playfaked to Quinn, rolled to his left, and hit a crossing Whitehead for a 13-yard touchdown to increase the Beaver lead to 24-10.

The Huskies were again forced to punt after a three and out. However, on the punt, OSU HB Marvin Quinn was hit low, upended, and the ball hit the turf, where it was taken back for a huge Husky touchdown. Husky Stadium went into pandamonium. Just as the Huskies were about to attempt the XP. The official came out and said, "The play is under review."

"After futher review, the play is reversed," said the official. "The returner's elbow was on the ground as the ball came out. Therefore, it is not a fumble. First down Oregon State."

The officiating crew was met with a chorus of boos. However, Oregon State was unable to do anything on offense. But, OSU punter Nick Carpenter made another fantastic punt as he pinned the Huskies at their own 2-yard line. Maybe the secret for Washington to have success on offense is to get backed up on their own side of the field because UW QB Luther Leonard threw to TE Kavario Middleton, who would not be tackled until he had gained a ridiculous 84-yard gain.

The Huskies were suddenly at the OSU 14-yard line. However, OSU held on 3rd & 2. Then UW coach Lane Kiffin, of the Pete Carroll tradition, decided to go for it. Leonard would throw one up into the corner of the end zone where OSU CB Mike Mayes was there to make a big interception.

As the game moved into the 4th quarter, Washington fans were starting to flood out of Husky Stadium. If they were not already on there way out, they soon would be when OSU HB Marvin Quinn broke through the Husky front seven, breaking arm tackles, and taking it to the house for a 74-yard touchdown run to put this one away. The Beavers now had a commanding 31-10 lead.

Highlight

The Beavers would tack on a late field goal and then UW QB Luther Leonard would throw another interception that OSU MLB Paul Jones took back for a pick-six as the Beavers would get another lop-sided victory with a final score of 41-10.

Week 8

(1) Ohio State wins close 21-18 over (2) Wisconsin

Buckeye HB Jon Cooper proclaims who is no. 1 after a 25-yard run that sealed this one for Ohio State.

Madison, WI - This one was as good as advertised. Ohio State was only ahead 14-10 at halftime. Then, to start the 2nd half, disaster struck the Buckeyes when HB Mike Tellis left with a bruised elbow that sidelined the talented tailback the remainder of the game. This game was supposed to be about OSU HB Mike Tellis and Wisc HB Will Pittman. However, it would be the OSU backup HB Jon Cooper that was the hero today as he ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns, including a touchdown run late in the 4th quarter to put the final nail in the coffin as Ohio State took a 21-10 lead. Although OSU QB Anthony Heffner continued his turnover issues. Even on a very questionable last pick-six when Ohio State only needed to run the clock out. The last pick-six and a Wisconsin 2-point conversion cut the game to a close 21-18 score. Fortunately, for Ohio State, Wisconsin could not come up with the onside kick as the Buckeyes remain the top team in the land even without speedster WR Lamaar Thomas.

Chris: Well, we're back in the Big Ten for another big game. Penn State is in Columbus today to take on the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes. [crowd cheers] Ohio State sure looked impressive last week in Madison but can they continue this success against a very good Nittany Lion team? Remember, Penn State's only loss was to Wisconsin, and they only lost by a field goal. This should be a good game today. We'll get to this game. Right now, we will send it to Reese Davis, Mark May, and Lou Holtz who will preview the Pitt-Notre Dame game. I wonder who they'll pick...

Also, a PSU win would really shake up the national picture. Guys, who wins today?

Kirk: Getting Thomas and Tellis back will help the Buckeyes a lot today. But it has really been the Ohio State defense that won the last week. This will not be a low scoring game. OSU QB Anthony Heffner can't throw 4 interceptions or the Buckeyes lose. Sadly, I've lost confidence and Heffner, and I think the Buckeyes fall today. [crowd boos loudly]

Lee: Kirk, I'm surprised. Two weeks in a row you've picked against your Buckeyes. Don't lose faith so fast. But you're right. PSU QB Evan McKinley will be the difference maker. #5 Oregon State (6-0) at Arizona (1-6)

Tucson, AZ - Now the Beavers have moved into the top five. Many of the pundits are attibuting Oregon State's success to the fact that the Pac-10 is a weak conference. So after the Beavers beat a terrible Washington team led by former USC offensive coordinator, Lane Kiffin, the Beavers now face another former USC offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian, who leads an even more horrible Arizona squad. The Wildcats' lone win came last week against Stanford who is not very good either. However, would Oregon State be looking ahead to next week when USC comes to Corvallis for what might be the game of the week next weekend?

Arizona is already at a disadvantage but injuries have plagued the Wildcats as they would be down to their third-string HB, redshirt sophomore Barrett Waters. OSU coach Mike Riley hinted during the week that QB Bryan Rossner could have a big game against Arizona's secondary and that he would open the playbook up for Rossner to pass the ball a bit more.

The Wildcats were able to get a single first down before being forced to punt on their opening possession. On the punt OSU punt returner Marvin Quinn was able to make a nice return of 43 yards to the Arz 33-yard line. OSU QB Bryan Rossner would quickly get the team into the red zone where HB Marvin Quinn muscled through for a 1-yard touchdown run to quickly give Oregon State a 7-0 lead.

It did not look like Oregon State was looking past Arizona at all early on as the Wildcats were forced to punt after a three and out. Rossner looked tremendous for the Beavers, hitting receivers in stride. Finally, Rossner would hit WR Brian Herring on a slant in the end zone from 13 yards out to put the Beavers up 14-0.

Again, Arizona had nothing on offense but a three and out. Oregon State looked on the verge of scoring again as the 1st quarter came to an end. However, on 3rd and goal, Rossner was sacked and fumbled in the process of being thrown down where the Wildcats recovered the ball to finally stop the OSU offense. Unfortunately, Arizona squandered the momentum gained when Arz QB Brooks Peters threw an egregious pass into coverage that OSU MLB Paul Jones easily intercepted. Oregon State would waste no time as Rossner would roll out to his left and find WR Brian Herring again for a 6-yard touchdown to put the Beavers up 21-0.

And yet again the Widcats punted after a three and out. This time Rossner would throw to HB Marvin Quinn in the flat where the tailback easily beat the defense to the end zone on a 17-yard touchdown reception to put the Beavers up big 28-0.

The Wildcats continued to struggle on offense with another three and out. Rossner would lead a brilliant drive at the end of the half, finally throwing to true freshman TE Adam Banks who made quite a diving catch for a big guy in the end zone for an 8-yard touchdown reception to make it 35-0 Oregon State.

The half would come to an end with an OSU CB Mike Mayes interception. The Wildcat fans were leaving the stadium in droves and anybody that was still watching this game on FSN should have turned to either the Georgia Tech-Clemson game or the Penn State-Ohio State game that were much more competitive.

Oregon State continued right where they left off as Rossner threw to WR Brian Herring on a short crossing route which Herring found a whole lot of grass, then broke a tackle in front of the end zone, and housed it for a 38-yard touchdown. It was Herring's 3rd touchdown of the game and it put the Beavers up 42-0.

Arizona would be forced to punt after two OSU sacks on Peters. On the ensuing possession, OSU HB Marvin Quinn would find some room to the outside but was brought down hard along the sideline where he was writhing on the ground in pain. Quinn would be forced to leave with a shoulder injury that looked like it could be serious.

So in came HB Jacquizz Rodgers where he was able to get to the outside on a toss and beat the defense to the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown run as the rout was on. Oregon State was now up 49-0. For the first time, Oregon State looked like a top five team.

The Wildcats finally did something on offense as they made it into OSU territory but were forced to settle for a 54-yard field goal just to get on the scoreboard to make it 49-3. However, it would not take Oregon State long to respond as OSU kick returner Brian Herring, in for the injured Marvin Quinn on the kickoff, was able to get near the sideline, make two defenders miss, and was off to the races where he was able to house it on an 87-yard kick return to add another OSU touchdown to make it 56-3 Oregon State. The kick return would give Herring his 4th touchdown of the game.

Highlight

OSU CB Matt McDaniel would pick off Arz QB Brooks Peters on the ensuing possession, and it would bring the 3rd quarter to an end. It would not be long before the Beavers found the end zone again when HB#37 scored on a 1-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 63-3. That would be the final play for the OSU starters but OSU QB Ryan Katz would get his own touchdown pass in the final minutes when he hit WR#80 for a 40-yard touchdown as the Beavers obliterated Arizona 70-3. Hopefully, the Beavers can bring some of that over to next week against the Trojans.

Week 9

PSU OLB Michael Mauti's 2nd interception ends Ohio State's undefeated season.

Columbus, OH - This major Big Ten game got off to a quick start when on the first play from scrimmage, OSU QB Anthony Heffner hooked up with WR Patrick Harris who was lit up by PSU CB Stephen Carter to force a fumble that was returned back for a Nittany Lion touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, OSU WR Lamaar Thomas wasted no time making an impact as he found a seam and took it to the house to make it 7-7 with under a minute ticked off the game clock.

Ohio State dominated the 1st half in every facet of the game. The Buckeye defense was relentless, but PSU QB Evan McKinley did not make a mistake. The same can not be said for Heffner, who would hurt his team with a costly interception at the end of the half. McKinley took advantage, throwing a touchdown to TE Stanley Smith to make it 17-14 despite the Buckeyes dominating the first half.

Penn State would tie the game on a 54-yard field goal. Ohio State missed two field goals and PSU QB Evan McKinley would eventually hook up with WR Shawn Coleman for a 24-yard touchdown to give the Lions a 24-17 lead. Buckeye coach Jim Tressell would make a controversial decision late in the 4th quarter, going for it on 4th and 2 from their own 46-yard line where HB Mike Tellis was stuffed by the PSU defense. It would set up a Nittany Lion 31-yard field goal attempt. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, the kick was hooked wide left. Ohio State would have one last chance with under two minutes left in the game. Unfortunately for Ohio State, Heffner would throw his third interception as PSU OLB Michael Mauti came up with the interception, his second of the game to knock off the undefeated Buckeyes.

Chris: We are coming to you live from Corvallis, Oregon. [crowd cheers] This is the first time the Gameday crew has been to the campus of Oregon State University where the Beavers host the Trojans of Southern Cal. There really could not be more on the line for both teams. The winner will be the favorite to win the conference and make a run at the BCS championship in Miami. Oregon State is coming off of a week where they obliterated a very weak Arizona team 70-3. Though many believe the reason for the Beavers' success can be attributed to the fact that the Pac-10 is really weak this year. [crowd boos] This will be the Beavers' opportunity to show the rest of the nation that they are for real.

Unfortunately, both teams come in banged up as we are past the midway point of the season. USC is still without their best LBs, ROLB#50 and MLB Michael Hall. Oregon State lost their prized CB John Biggers for the season and last week HB Marvin Quinn went down with a shoulder injury. We turn to Erin Andrews for more on Quinn's status. Erin...


Erin Thanks Chris. We are being told that Quinn has a torn shoulder and will likely be out a minimum of 10 weeks. The Beavers will have to make do with HB Jacquizz Rodgers to carry the load. Remember guys, Rodgers was forced to play in the Cal game last year and did a great job when Oregon State got their signature win last season over the Golden Bears. Chris, back to you.

Chris: Thank you Erin. That is not good news for the Beavers. But Erin hinted at the fact that Rodgers is no slouch either.

Kirk: That's right Chris. Jacquizz Rodgers is a great back in his own right. He may even see some time at the next level, just as Quinn will also. Honestly, I'm not sure it will matter who is running back there for Oregon State. Going against this Trojan defense is no easy task. Especially on the ground. USC has not only the top defense in the country but also has the best rush defense in the nation. However, Oregon State brings in the 2nd best defense and 2nd best rush defense. So I don't see either OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers or USC HB Curtis McNeal having a great day today. It will come down to the QBs. OSU QB Bryan Rossner is coming off a career game, throwing five touchdowns. His receivers are some of the most underrated players. WRs Whitehead and Herring are really playing fantastic. I think they both have big games today as the Beavers pull it off. [crowd goes nuts]

Lee: Wow Kirk. You're going with the Beavs. USC has better athletes at every position and really should blow them out of the water just like last year. The difference is this year it is here in Corvallis. [crowd cheers] And how can I go against these great fans? Give me the Beavers!
