At least you lost on the road. Losing at home to a lower-ranked team would suck balls, but I'll forgive you this once

          Game of the Week

          #1 Notre Dame (9-0) @ #14 USC (9-1)

Chris: And then there were four. Only four teams left undefeated after the last Pac-10 team, the Beavers fell to the Bruins last week. (crowd boos) Welcome everybody to Los Angeles for the big Notre Dame-USC rivalry game. The Irish come in as the favorites today. (crowd boos) The Trojans will have the chance to play the spoiler as they are likely out of the national championship talk. However, a win today against the #1 team in the nation and maybe that would change. Another huge rivalry game will take place in Columbus today between Michigan and Ohio State. The Wolverines will look to bring the Buckeyes' national title hopes to an end. Also, a win for Michigan clinches the Big Ten Title for the Wolverines. Also of note is that if Notre Dame and Ohio State were to fall today, we would likely have two non-BCS teams sitting at #1 and #2. As TCU and Tulane are sitting pretty with undefeated records. There is a real possibility that we could see a non-BCS team in the national championship this year. Something to keep your eye on.

          Game Predictions

          #19 Michigan (8-2) @ #2 Ohio State (10-0)
          Kirk: OSU Lee: OSU

          #11 Oklahoma (9-1) @ #25 BYU (10-1)
          Kirk: OU Lee: OU

Chris: Okay. Time to make your picks for the big one we have here today.

Kirk: About the only thing the Trojans have going for them today is that they are at home. But if Oregon State can shut out USC 38-0, then the Trojans could be in for a long day against Notre Dame. (crowd boos) The Irish come in with the country's highest scoring offense led by senior QB Joe Davis (97 ovr). Also, HB Tyrone Meade leads the nation's 3rd best rush offense as he has already amassed over 1100 yards on the ground and scored 16 touchdowns. And this is not the same USC defense we've grown used to. They will struggle to slow down this prolific ND offense. I don't think it will be very close at all. Notre Dame wins big. (crowd boos)

Lee: Come on Kirk. Don't forget there's always turnovers that could keep USC in the game. Oh but wait...the Irish have +15 turnover differential which is 2nd best in the nation. And you didn't even mention their defense. With MLB Jonathan Thompson (99 ovr) this is one of the more underrated defenses. Notre Dame has the 3rd best defense so far this year. The Irish win big. (Lee puts on the Leprechaun hat as the crowd continues to boo) GO NOTRE DAME!!!

                    #9 Oregon State (9-1) @ Stanford (3-7)

Palo Alto, CA - After a tough loss to UCLA, Oregon State was looking to get back on track. Fortunately, next up was 3-7 Stanford whose only wins have come against Washington State, Washington, and an FCS team.

Stanford may have hoped for an OSU hangover but after the Cardinal were forced to punt, head coach Jim Harbaugh knew that the Beavers were ready. OSU then responded by putting together a perfect drive that was finished with HB Derrick Andrews crossing the goal line on a 1-yard TD rush to put the Beavers quickly on top 7-0.

OSU HB Derrick Andrews with a 1-yard TD rush.

Stanford would go a quick three-and-out on the ensuing possession. Then OSU QB Justin Rust would connect over the middle to WR Bill Faaeteete who was drilled, leaving the game with a dislocated shouler. However the injury would not slow down the Beavers' offense as Rust would hit WR David Baker on a slant right at the goal line for a 12-yard TD to put Oregon State in front 14-0.

OSU WR David Baker with a 12-yard TD reception.

To open the 2nd quarter, Stanford finally put a drive together but it would stall in OSU territory to set up a 38-yard field goal that was good to make it 14-3 OSU. But Stanford had no answer to stop Oregon State's offense. Rust would dump it off to HB Derrick Andrews who made his way toward the sideline with only one defender in front of him. At the sideline, he made a move that left the defender grabbing air, but the whistle blew. Andrews had stepped out of bounds but it was still a 33-yard gain. Not long after in the red zone, Rust threw to Baker over the middlewho spun by a defender and accelerated into the end zone for a 13-yard reception to put OSU up 21-3.

OSU WR David Bakers spins and accelerates into the end zone for a 13-yard TD reception.

Stanford would be able to get out to midfield on the ensuing possession but would be forced to punt. However, Jim Harbaugh, knowing that the game was starting to get out of hand decided to gamble with a fake punt. The punter connected with the receiver over the middle for a 1st down. Unfortunately for the Cardinal, QB Jason Rodgers was sacked by OSU DE Brandon Webb on 3rd down. Thus setting up a long 52-yard field goal attempt that was apparently just out of range as the ball fell short of the cross bar.

The Beavers went right back to work as Andrews found a big opening up the middle for a gain of 29 yards. Oregon State would finish off another impressive possession with Rust finding Andrews open for a 13-yard TD connection to make it 28-3.

OSU QB Justin Rust connects with HB Derrick Andrews for a 13-yard TD.

Stanford QB Jason Rodgers would respond by putting a last minute drive together that resulted in a 35-yard field goal to make it 28-6 at halftime.

The Cardinal would actually hold the Beavers to a three-and-out to start the 3rd quarter so maybe Stanford could make a comeback. Unfortunately for Stanford, the punt pinned the Cardinal at their own 3-yard line. Where Stanford QB Jason Rodgers under pressure dumped the ball into the flat where OSU FS Scott Vinson , just back from his injury, immediately impacted the game as he was able to steal the ball from the TE, and then take in for a pick-six to make it 35-6 OSU.

OSU FS Scott Vinson with a pick-six.

Another sack by OSU DE Brandon Webb would force another Stanford three-and-out. Before long, the Beavers would find themselves back in the red zone where on a 4th-and-goal at the 1-yard line, Rust ran it in himself on a sneak to put the Beavers in front 42-6.

In the 4th quarter, Stanford QB Jason Rodgers threw a deep pass over the middle which was picked off by OSU FS Scott Vinson for his 2nd interception of the game. The return took it all the way into Stanford territory. Where QB Justin Rust hooked up with a wide open TE Adam Banks for a 7-yard touchdown to put Oregon State way ahead 49-6. It was Justin Rust's 30th touchdown pass of the season which was a new school record.

OSU TE Adam Banks wide open for a 7-yard TD.

With the game well in hand, Mike Riley pulled all of the starters as the Beavers clobbered the Cardinal 49-6. Up next is the final game of the season against the rival Oregon Ducks at Reser Stadium. Depending on the outcome of the Battle for the Victory Bell between UCLA and USC, the Civil War could have Rose Bowl implications for Oregon State.

                      Week 13

                      #1 Notre Dame (9-0) @ #14 USC (9-1)

                      Defense Propels Irish to Victory

ND HB Tyrone Meade scores on a 4-yard TD run.

Los Angeles, CA - The Trojans showed that they are still a team to be reckoned with on the opening possession as the Notre Dame defense failed to get USC off the field on 3rd down. USC marched all the way into the red zone but QB Mark Nelson was sacked by ND MLB Geroge Cannon (96 ovr) and the Trojans were forced to settle for a 27-yard field goal. After an 18-play drive that took up half the 1st quarter, USC was only ahead 3-0. Then the Irish responded with a quick, ugly three-and-out. And a battle of field position between the 3rd best defense and the 5th best defense ensued.

Notre Dame would finally get on the board with a 43-yard field goal to tie the ame 3-3. USC head coach Pete Carroll, trying to seize the momentum would attempt a 4th-and-inches in the ND territory, foregoing the field goal. On the play, Nelso threw to the FB in the flat but the outstanding ND MLB Jonathan Thompson (99 ovr) was there to take him down in the backfield. However it would not be long before USC had the ball back and Carroll would go for it again. This time just across midfield where HB Bruce Brady was stuffed in the backfield. With under a minute left, ND QB Joe Davis (97 ovr) led the Irish into the red zone where they were able to tack on a 30-yard field goal before halftime to go ahead 6-3.

It was still anybody's game heading into the 3rd quarter. Neither team had been able to establish any running game whatsoever except for USC HB Bruce Brady on the opening drive of the game. The battle of field position continued. USC was held but would attempt a fake punt that failed miserably when the upback was tackled deep in the backfield. The Irish were given good field position and QB Joe Davis started connecting down the field. Davis was able to lead the Irish into the red zone where HB Tyrone Meade finally found an opening up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown as Notre Dame took a 13-3 lead.

Notre Dame would tack a 46-yard field goal onto the scoreboard early in the 4th quarter to put the Irish up 16-3. Pete Carroll would again attempt a 4th down in ND territory but Nelson would throw an errant pass. But the Trojan defense would get the ball back for their offense. Finally, the Trojans would make a play on offense when QB Mark Nelson went over the top to WR Ellis Hicks for a 33-yard gain. However, inside ND terrtory, Nelson would be sacked. Then a holding call would back up USC to a 3rd-and-24. On 4th-and-11, Nelson threw over the middle where it was nearly picked off. The Irish held again.

But USC would get the ball back quickly after another ND three-and-out. Nelson was able to finally successfully move the Trojans down the field where he was able to hook up with WR Mickey Lewis for a late touchdown to make it 16-10. Unfortunately, there was only :14 left to go in the game. USC would need to recover the onside kick and hope for a miracle but Notre Dame recovered on the onside and celebrated a huge victory.

                          #18 USC (9-2) @ #4 UCLA (9-1)

Chris: Well, it feels like we've been in southern California for three weeks now.

Kirk: Chris, that's because we have.

Lee: Yeah, I could get used to this.

Chris: That's right, we're coming to you from Pasadena for the Battle of the Victory Bell between USC and UCLA. This one may decide the Pac-10 champion. If UCLA wins today, then they will clinch the conference. However, if USC wins, then it will come down to the outcome of the Civil War up in Corvallis between Oregon and Oregon State. A win for Oregon State and a win for USC would send the Beavers back here to Pasadena for another Rose Bowl appearance.

Well, the other Rose Bowl conference, the Big Ten was decided last week when Michigan pulled off the upset against Ohio State. We've got a huge weekend of college football to get to...

                          #5 Penn State (10-1) @ #21 Pittsburgh (9-1)
                          Kirk: Pitt Lee: Pitt

                          #7 Ohio State (10-1) @ #24 Alabama (9-2)
                          Kirk: OSU Lee: OSU

                          #9 Florida (10-1) @ #13 Florida State (9-2)
                          Kirk: FLA Lee: FLA

Chris: And now we turn to the Battle for the Victory Bell that will help decide the Pac-10. How does this one play out guys?

Kirk: The Trojans really showed me something last week against Notre Dame. If a few plays went their way, they might have been able to pull off the upset. This team is better than people give them credit for. Their offense certainly does not scare anybody, but USC's defense keeps them in any game. I think the Trojans will keep this game close and USC pulls out an extremely close game in the end. (crowd boos)

Lee: You're right Kirk. This will be a close game. Neither of these teams puts a lot of points on the scoreboard but plays good defense. That being said, UCLA has a healthy junior QB Bryan Quinn (93 ovr) who should be able to throw against this USC secondary. I think USC will have to find a ground game to find any success, but with UCLA junior DT Matt Barber (95 ovr) in the middle, they will struggle gaining rushing yards. I'm picking the Bruins! (Lee puts on the Bruin headgear as the crowd cheers) GO BRUINS!

I'll be rooting for Southern Cal to win so I can head back to the Rose Bowl.

The Fighting Irish have a real chance to play and win the national championship. They do have to get by a one-loss Boise State on the last week of the season, and it looks like they'll play a far inferior TCU in the NC if all plays out like it should.

                                Oregon (5-6) @ #8 Oregon State (10-1)
                                Civil War

Corvallis, OR - Although the Oregon Ducks are not what they once were, they still had a chance to possibly play the spoiler against the rival Beavers at Reser Stadium. The Pac-10 would be decided between the game here at Reser Stadium and the other rivalry game taking place down in Pasadena between USC and UCLA. Despite the loss to UCLA a couple weeks ago, an opportunity to head back to the Rose Bowl is not anything taken lightly for Beaver fans for a team that had not previously been there since 1960. Weather would not be a factor as it was clear November evening.

The Ducks were shut down on their opening possession but a facemask by OSU MLB Casey Wright kept the drive alive. Oregon was able to march into OSU territory but the drive would stall to set up a 4th-and-two, which Chip Kelly tried to go for. Duck QB Vince Smith threw deep over the top but OSU FS Scott Vinson was there to knock the ball down.

The Beavers looked in rhythm on offense and were driving into Oregon territory. That was until QB Justin Rust threw to TE Adam Banks. Where Oregon SS Tim McKinney was able to step in front and make the interception.

Oregon SS Tim McKinney steps in front of OSU TE Adam Banks for the interception.

But the Ducks would not make any headway as they were shut down to a three-and-out. On the ensuing possession for Oregon State, HB Derrick Andrews was hit hard and left the game with a dislocated finger prevented him from playing for the rest of the game. Already thin at tailback, the Beavers now would turn to red shirt freshman HB Derek Holmes (73 ovr). The game would be scoreless headed into the 2nd quarter.

The Beavers would make their way into the red zone but Rust would be sacked. As a result, Oregon State had to settle for a 23-yard field goal to go on top 3-0. The Ducks would continue to find any offensive success as they went three-and-out again. On the ensuing possession, OSU HB Derek Holmes got the handoff on counter to the left side where he was able to get to the outside. Then turned on the jets and left the Ducks in the dust for a 51-yard TD to put the Beavers in front 10-0.

OSU HB Derek Holmes gets outside and takes it all the way for a 51-yard TD.

For the remaining minutes of the 1st half, neither team was able to get a single first down and OSU QB Justin Rust had been sacked five times already heading into halftime. At halftime, it was announced to Reser Stadium that USC was up 24-10. Hearing that the Trojans were ahead, Reser Stadium cheered and applauded. If the Beavers could hold on, it looked like they would be heading back to the Rose Bowl.

The Beavers broke out of their funk with an impressive opening drive to start the 3rd quarter. Rust would finish off by hitting WR David Baker on a 6-yard slant in the end zone as OSU went ahead 17-0.

OSU WR David Baker with a 6-yard TD reception.

It was not a sign of things to come as a long struggle for field position ensued with four consecutive punts without either team achieving a 1st down. But finally Duck QB Vince Smith was able to lead a drive through the air. Inside the red zone, HB Eddie Walker got the ball up the middle and juked and jived through the OSU defense to find the end zone on a 10-yard TD run. 17-7 OSU.

However on the ensuing possession, OSU HB Derek Holmes exploded through a small hole right up the gut and took it 68 yards to the house. Oregon State was up 24-7 just like that.

Heading into the 4th quarter, the Ducks would be forced to punt. Oregon State would try to tack on a 52-yard FG, but Reggie Smith kicked it just wide right. Then all of a sudden Duck QB Vince Smith put together a drive as Oregon's passing game looked unstoppable. Smith would hit WR Chaz Collins for a 6-yard TD to make it 27-14 OSU.

It kind of appeared that the Beavers were starting to celebrate a bit too early as the Ducks forced OSU to punt. Oregon got the ball back and Smith led the Ducks back into the red zone where he found HB Eddie Walker for an 11-yard TD connection to suddenly make it 27-21.

Unfortunately, that was the last play of the game. At about that time a huge wave of orange swept onto the field, it was announced that there was a final score in Pasadena. USC 24, UCLA 10. Oregon State was heading back to the Rose Bowl.
