Now tied for the lead, I'm happy with the 2-1 win. Just gotta beat up on your A's and I'm looking golden!

Orioles led for the start of the season, the Yanks for a stint. Then the Red Sox started to run away with it. Two teams out of the AL East most likely when it comes playoff time.

When I was writing all the standings out, I said the same thing too. Detroit was a force early on, and now they're heating up again. Not good for me, hopefully I can keep them off my heels.

I'm not worried bout the Cubs! Even if they made it to the playoffs it'd be a NLDS loss.

Free Swinging A's Take It To Extras

Mark DeRosa delivered the win, with a base hit driving in Kelly Shoppach for the win.

AP - Cleveland, OH - The Cleveland Indians can breath a sigh of relief. Not because they avoided the defeat in extra innings from Oakland. They can breath, because for the first time this season, they now lead the AL Central. It actually came during their off day when they took a half game lead with Chicago losing to the Royals. Chicago again loss today and the Indians now hold a one and half game lead on their AL Central Rivals.

Fausto Carmona was on the mound today for the Indians and earned his 100th strike out of the year. On the day he fanned ten batters, giving up three runs. He didn't do enough in his outing however to get the win. In the seventh he was pulled for reliver Joe Smith, Smith, who had watched the A's free swinging ways took advantage of their lack of plate discipline. Smith worked three innings fanning five of his own, and in the process picked up the victory.

The Indians gave out 10,000 free tickets for the game as a giveaway experience for the fans. The Indians have one of the better attendance records despite not having many promotions, when asked about this GM Mark Shapiro gave the best answer he could. "We've made baseball games affordable again, in this economy we're one of the cheapest stadium's, if not the cheapest to visit. We spent a lot of money during the first half of the season on things like concessions, spas, equipment for the players, and first class flights. We've done all of that, so money is a little tight around here."

Well one thing that isn't tight is the tension, the Indians can now focus on just playing baseball again and not the standings as they look to complete this series against Oakland. Cliff Lee will be on the mound for the Indians in game two.

            Number 50!

Indians fans got to enjoy the fireworks, on and off the field.

AP - Cleveland, OH - Happy Independence Day! The Cleveland Indians celebrated July 4th with a 12-2 stomping of the Oakland A's. Justin Duchscherer has been the leading the votes for starting pitcher for the AL team. His record was questionable, but prior to this game his 2.26 ERA was a thing of beauty, was.

The Indians unloaded on Duchscherer and his bullpen for a 12 spot, scoring three runs in four different innings. While Cliff Lee took the mound and continued to climb out of his slump, many thought Cliff might be a July trade, the game today proved to the organization that moving him would be a mistake. Lee tossed for seven innings, giving up only two runs before turning the duties over to Rafeal Perez out of the bullpen.

"Getting offensive help, helps." said Lee. "You have to go out there and keep runs off the board, and in return your guys have to put you in position to win. I kept the runs off, they kept piling them on. It's a good feeling, you know. To get a win like this one. I'll make another start before the All-Star break and enjoy the days off. I'm excited for the break."

Lee isn't the only one excited for the break. The win today pushed the Indians to fifty wins on the season. Eric Wedge was on hand to talk about the importance of getting fifty before the all-star break. "We're now into the second half of the season, today was game number eighty-two. Getting 50 wins, with eighty games to go. It's important. To win a division you'll need at least 90. We secured this, before the All-Star break. Well before when I thought we would. We're on pace now to win the division. I'm happy about that, so are the rest of the guys, even though we're on pace, we still have to get it done out there."

The Indians will look to complete the sweep of the Oakland A's tomorrow with Carl Pavano on the mound. Pavano has been in hot water because of his performance last month. If he does terrible you can expect the Indians to make a move during the All-Star break to get a guy more capable of the job in there.

                  Pavano Delivers!

With a tip of the hat, Pavano delivers his best outing this season.

AP - Cleveland, OH - With his back against the wall, Carl Pavano delivered the performance of the season. One perhaps, that allows him to keep his job post All-Star break. "It's good to get a win like this today, I've been struggling all season, and a lot as of late. To pick up a game like this, is a boost in confidence. I have another start before the management decides. So I need to deliver there as well."

Pavano didn't get a lot of help until the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings when the Indians decided to score the four runs they needed to win the game. Pavano pitched a no hitter until the seventh, and only gave up two more hits after that. "Yeah, but I'm not dissapointed. When your struggling, you're not looking for the perfect game, you're looking for a game, a good game. That's it, maybe some other time?" added Pavano.

The Indians with a win today, improve their record on the season. They have to AL Central match-ups in the White Sox and the Tigers before the break, both series on the road. The Tribe will look to pad their AL Central lead before the break.

Lee has been climbing out of a struggle. Glad to see him perform again. There will be moves to the rotation most likely as I retool for the playoff push.

                          Key Bank's "Keys to Succes"

1.) Small Ball - The Indians took their last three game series 2-1, winning both of their games by a single run. This means playing small ball and not letting Chicago jump up in scoring via the long ball. Keeping the ball in the park will be key to winning this series on the road.

2.) Establish Dominance - The Tribe are losing the season series, another series win and they start to establish that they not Chicago are the team to beat in the AL Central. It's a mental game that the Indians need to win in order to truly lead the Central.

3.) Solid Bullpen - Another key in the last series win was the bullpen coming through in the clutch. If they do this again the Indians could get a series win on the road, which will help as Detroit is waiting in the wing to take on the Indians after their series with the White Sox.

I'll need it, Chi Sox are no joke, and they're home too.

Thanks, and yes currently in first place.

Try to keep this momentum rolling after the All-Star Game.
