Tigers Narrowly Escape Defeat To Split Series With Division Rival White Sox

    (35-25) @ (30-31)

Fernando Rodney tightroped his way to his 16th save of the season against the 3,4, and 5 hitters of the White Sox lineup..

On the road in hostile Chicago, the Tigers pulled out a narrow 2-1 victory over the White Sox, in front of 30,182 fans at U.S. Cellular Field. Magglio Ordone went 3 for 4 and drove in a run to spur the club to victory. Allowing 1 run on 6 hits over 7 innings of work, while striking out 6, Justin Verlander was able to notch his 6th win of the season.

The Tigers had a scare after Brandon Inge was forced to leave the game early after getting injured. Luckily, it was only a bruised arm and Inge is listed at day to day. At the most, Inge will mis 1 or 2 games.

Tomorrow evening, the Tigers will travel to Pittsburge to face the Pirates behind Edwin Jackson (4-1 , 3,18 ERA) who will be taking on Zach Duke (2-5 , 3.93 ERA)

      Series Review:

This series was a lot tougher than the numbers would lead you to believe. Game 1 was a 10-2 beatdown but after that games were close. I lost game 2 by 2 runs, lost game 3 by 1 and just barely made it out of game 4 to end up splitting the series with them. My lineup is finally healthy so it's time to see what these bad boys can do together. Losing Dontrelle Willis for 2 weeks is going to suck but hopefully Zach Miner can keep his head above water in his place.

My next 15 games are all against National League teams. 6 of those games are at home. Meaning 9 games I will be without a DH. In those games, the lineup will fluctuate based on what I think will put me in best position to win. Mostly with Josh Anderson and Carlos Guillen in left field. A matter of whether I want more speed or better contact and power out there.

If you're not getting anything out of your catchers, you could always move Inge back behind the plate and Larish at 3B (He's a top prospect). I'm not sure how big of a role defense plays on MLB09, but generally in video games, defense is not represented enough and basically any fielder will do most times.
                  Larish - .308, 4hr , 20rbi in 221 at-bats.

Not shabby numbers at all. Just don't have the room to bring him up right now. lol.

What's funny is that he is actually playing 2B and batting 2nd. no idea why that is.

Laird is taking care of business and is one of my favorite aspect of the teams just because he's kinda like a jack of all trades. Treanor, who backs him up is doing alright. Nothing to write home about. But a younger Dusty Ryan (who is also doing alright in Triple-A) will probably take over backup duties behind the plate come next season.

Jackson Lives By The "Bend But Don't Break" Attitude In Hit Parade

                        (35-25) @ (16-46)

Edwin Jackson helped his cause after reaching 1st and bringing in a run on a Pirates error.

On the road, under the lights, and playing an interleague game? No big deal for the Tigers, who were on the winning end of an 8-2 decision over the Pirates at PNC Park. Gerald Laird brought the big hits, going 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI. Edwin Jackson gave up 1 run and 9 hits over 6 innings of work, and that was good enough for him to record his 5th win of the season, and 4th in a row.

The series will resume tomorrow night at PNC, with the visiting Tigers going with Zach Miner (3-3 , 3.80 ERA) and the Pirates offering Jeff Karstens (0-9 , 7.41 ERA). It will be Miner's first start of 2009.

Marcus Thames got a base hit! SCREAM FROM THE ROOFTOPS!

Jackson was in hot water all god damn night it seemed. Highwire acts left and right. Got myself out of a bases loaded jam in there at one point too.

Yeah, both teams were finding ways to get on base. Only difference was, I found ways to bring em home. :D
