Just watched it and thought it was great. Garfield is definitely better in the role than Tobey. I really like what they did with his character and with Gwen Stacy. Did a great job introducing the series while leaving out Mary Jane, him working at the Daily Bugle, Harry, etc. Really intrigued to see what they do next.

I was talking with someone about that today. I feel that has to be a major plot point and I'm guessing that guy ends up being one of the many Spiderman villians that started out as small rent crooks(i.e Electro, Scorpion, Shocker)

They confirmed it wasnt Norman at the end of the movie. They said it was someone who worked for Oscorp and didn't say if he would or would not be the next villain in the movie.

Also Stan Lee's cameo was pretty funny.

          lol at the Raimi bashing.
"Spider-Man" centers on student Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) who, after being bitten by a genetically-altered spider, gains superhuman strength and the spider-like ability to cling to any surface. He vows to use his abilities to fight crime, coming to understand the words of his beloved Uncle Ben: "With great power comes great responsibility."

When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's (James Franco) hatred for Spider-Man and his true love's (Kirsten Dunst) sudden engagement to another man.

The second one was considered the best comic book movie ever until Dark Knight. Its still top 3.

There were alot of tough decisions that had to be made with the first Spiderman. They mode most of them right.
Tobey was a fantastic spiderman/peter parker. The webshooter decision was from a James Cameron draft which covered up the biggest flaw in comic books as to why a guy who's a human spider has every ability but the one that spiders are actually known for.

Neither version is true to the comic origins and both took major liberties for the sake of story telling. Parker was gifted and exceptional. He may have made it into Mensa but he wasnt a lab scientist "genius" type until later rewrites of his character. Neither movie portray him as a genius.

The webshooters/materials were taken from oscorp ((were they stolen borrowed given ?? )).. thats like saying Jason Voorhees is a blacksmith because he picked up a machete he found
The only time the movie alludes to him being an actual genius is showing his ability to put together a Hollywood level costume with intricate stitching and materials...all by hand.
IMO both movies made the right choices for there respective needs. The best decision by far in this reboot was the use of night time shots. The first one was almost exclusively daytime shots which just highlights the limitations of the CGI back then. Today you have better cameras , better cgi , and night time combining into a far more believable engrossing spiderman. Kirsten Dunst was always an atrocious pick. Emma Stone is fantastic , had FAR better chemistry ((even though no scene actually topped the upside down kiss form the original)) , and was a better actress. Garfields Spiderman/Parker is a shade better than Macguires. Uncle Ben and Aunt May were acted far better. The villain was nowhere near as compelling as Goblin but the fights were better and more entertaining then the goblin fights.

Overall wasnt as "fun" as seeing the first one since there really was no awe factor of finally seeing Spiderman on the big screen. This one however was far more emotionally involving than any of the first 3 and IMO just as good and Id have no argument if someone said it was a bit better.

          As for sequels...

Venom Venom Venom. One of the best villains in the marvel universe got ass raped in the shitty part 3. Id love to see what this crew could do with that character. Goblin is obviously the one that Kills Gwen but if you're going to take liberties have Venom do it. IMO they ruled out Goblin by not introducing him in this one. So just skip it and go for Venom.

            Damning praise.

Anyway, that movie sucked large amounts of donkey dick. LOL at "it's still top 3" too ... Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Avengers, Iron Man, etc. poop down the mouth of Spiderman 2. And I didn't even like Iron Man all that much.

Batman Begins was decent at best. Uninteresting villain , awful portrayal of Bruce Wayne. It was "different" enough and contrasted the Shumacher disasters enough that it got heavy praise. Dark Knight thankfully was all about the villian and secondary characters which were all played masterfully.
Dark Knight and Avengers take your pick for 1/2.

That leaves Iron man. It was also very very good but better than Spiderman 2 ? Perhaps. I thought Alfred Molinas character was better than whatever the heck Iron man fought at the end and a fantastic villian overall. Like it or not Spiderman 2 is a fantastic movie with overwhelming praise , and remains near the top of the heap of superhero movies. Bashing it is just emo nerdom gone bad.

Yeah that 45-minute sequence featuring Spidey stopping a train that doesn't even exist was really cool. Remind me again which train line I need to take to pass through Times Square above ground?

It was such a shitty scene Batman Begins did the same sequence except they filled that train with "scary gas".

Oh and its the P train. You just have to ask for it a few times.

You'd be hardpressed to find anyone with a valued opinion to complain about Tobeys Spiderman. Theres a reason it set box office records. You guys must be stuck on part 3 or been 5 when you saw spiderman.

The only decent movie Tobey Maguire ever made was Seabiscuit. Your opinion on comic book movies is not valued. Believe that. Were you 5 when you saw X-Men 3 and gave it a glowing review? Box Office records =/= great performances. I'm sure that gay ass Beiber movie had a shit ton of people going to it too. Why don't you tell us all how much you loved it? Tobey was a terrible Peter Parker and an even worse Spiderman. Garfield kicked the shit out of Maguire's Parker/Spiderman. I can't believe I'm still typing because I discounted all movie opinions from you the day you confirmed you were a fan of X-Men 3.

It set box office records because we had all been waiting forever to see Spiderman on film. It was guaranteed to be a smash hit on Day One. You act like it was a grass roots word of mouth movement or something ... Spiderman is an American icon with a built in audience that spans three to four generations. Of course it made a shit ton of money. A good film that does not make.

I actually liked the first one. My main beef is with the second two, but either way I still never thought Tobey Maguire was right for the part.

I hated how we were supposed to accept that Tobey Maguire was a high school student

Spiderman 2 was the one that set records. People loved Tobey as Spiderman period. Its just retarded to say they didnt. If I'm not mistaken Garfield is a year older than Tobey was for Spiderman. Dunst actually was and looked younger than Emma Stone but was horrific as MJ.

Spiderman geeks can complain and compare all they want, but among the general public this isn't even debatable.
