    Pacific Rim

Fucking fun, laughed out loud several times, got exactly what I wanted out of it. Charlie Hunnam's character repeatedly saying "SON OF A BITCH" all exasperated like was the highlight, a nice complement to his SoA character's constant usage of "JESUS CHRIST" ...

Haha, j/k. The highlight was Stringer Bell being all like "FUCK YO APOCALYPSE THESE KAIJU TOO IGNORANT TO HAVE THE FLOOR"

I've not seen it yet...its on the Netflix queue. I'll probably get some love by the time the fall comes around and I get into more horror films.

Surprising, but few directors in history could have their first 3 films compete with Ben Affleck's.

The scene with the two girls in the bedroom was terrifying. There was nothing there, but the acting of the girls was spot on. Good stuff
see now i am going to my local bootlegger and acquire a copy......see what you did.

Watched "The Other Guys" last night. Went into it with zero expectations and really enjoyed it. Got a bunch of cheap laughs from it, Will Ferrell had some fantastic moments, loved the randomness of the whole thing, and Eva Mendez is still smoking hot.

The Conjuring...lots of fun, Vera Farmiga is outstanding in practically everything she's in.

Me neither, I've seen maybe two horror movies this decade. Never been a big fan, plus now a days the ones that are considered good look just as bad as the ones considered horrible.

Sounds like there's a few worth checking out thought, I might have to get to them.

Elysium - I like Neill Blomkamp's approach to SciFi. Taking socially relevant topics and sending those motherfuckers into the future with it. District 9 was fantastic. I think Elysium is just a bit too in-your-face with the healthcare topic. It was still a good flick, just not as good as District 9. I think this actually would have made a better mini-series. Slow it down a little bit. This one went from zero to sixty really quickly after it set up this "world" and its characters...it went right into the go-home sequence.

Either way, I hope Neill Blomkamp continues to make movies like this. I like his style, although I wish he'd make his point a little more subtle. I feel like this and Pacific Rim were a bit under appreciated by critics and the movie going audience. They were big, original sci fi concepts that were good enough to be given a "good job" by critics and the movie going genpop.

My only gripe was this one was a little too pushy in its agenda.

Will Ferrel has been party to the two funniest dinner scenes ever.

Know what I like ? He knows how to make things like spaceships , bridges , even off earth stuff seem right within reach even though they are far away. It gives his movies some weird sense of documentary like reality. Based off District 9 movie and Elysium trailer only.

Oblivion - Im a Kosinski fanboy. Halo 3 and GOW1/2 commercials were friggin brilliant and best in class. Tron visually and aurally was superb. IMO hes taken another step and the story and plot are getting up to par with his beautiful style.
Cant say much that isnt a spoiler but I thought this movie was shit ont he wall by the commercials ((especially with stupid after earth released within earshot)). So I passed. Rented tonight and wad caught off guard by how much I enjoyed it. Tom Cruise needs to stop being called "Jack" in movies though.
IMO worth a rental. Beautiful movie , shot well , original story , plot unfolds right when the movie seems to be redundant and going nowhere. Nothing that left me scratching my head but did leave me wondering more about the world.

Its a crime that Neil Blonkenwhatever didnt end up directing a Halo movie.
It will be a crime if Kosinski doesnt end up directing a Gears of War movie.
Best reason to have a license.

I initially gave Argo a higher score, but the more I think about it, I actually like Gone Baby Gone better. Too bad it was so overlooked when it came out. Loved The Town also.

Elysium had a lot of problems, but I enjoyed it immensely.

The Great Gatsby (2013) - Totally gross. Pretty terrible and ever-long. Oh, and Jay Z should never produce another movie. Nothing says "1922" like a soundtrack full of Jay Z and Beyonce. Icky.

The Spectacular Now All of the feelz/10.

Mike Birbiglia randomly tweeted out that he was doing a surprise Q and A tonight with Michael Weber, one of the screenwriters so I decided to check it out. Found it magnificent, and the Q and A afterward was really cool (same writer as 500 Days of Summer if that interests you).

Roger Ebert actually managed to review this before he went, gave it 4 stars, so you should read that instead of anything else I'd have to say about it ...
