Nolan has already said no Riddler, or recasting of Joker. I'm guessing he'll probably be a cop or something and is helping hunt down the Batman.

Paul Franklin and his team from Inception won a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual-Effects Driven Feature Motion Picture. Now the Visual Effects Supervisor is developing The Dark Knight Rises with Christopher Nolan. I thought he might be getting ready to digitize Anne Hathaway for some Catwoman effects, but he assured us Catwoman will be all Anne, not like the Halle Berry cartoon.

“No, no, not at all,” Franklin said. “We always start something like this trying to keep it as real as possible. We would only ever resort to digital doubles for some stunt moments or things like that. We try to keep them real. That’s the way Chris likes to make a film.”

But then there’s Bane, to be played by Tom Hardy. That might have to be a CGI effect like Two-Face, right? “You’d have to ask Chris. I think he has his plan but we’re at a very, very early stage on the picture at the moment. Obviously Two-Face was an example of fantastic digital prosthetic. They put tracking markers on Aaron Eckhart’s face and replaced one side of his face with CG. So that obviously had to be a digital thing but it’s based on a real performance. Aaron was delivering the lines, giving the performance.”

The parts that are visual effects will be all new. Even though they’ve done Gotham City twice now, Nolan and Franklin like to start from scratch each time. “We try to keep it different every time. There might be a few things, maybe features of Gotham City that will turn up again to give it some sort of visual continuity. Obviously we’ll try and keep some sort of thematic style with that but really, it’s a film in its own right.”

Here’s how secretive Franklin wanted to be. He wouldn’t even admit that Dark Knight Rises was his next film. “Yeah, I’m working on a new film with Chris at the moment, yes.”

So, process of elimination, try to figure out which upcoming Christopher Nolan film this applies to.

I loved the second batman, mainly because of Heath's role. But I dont get why they would go with a criminal like Catwoman or Bane instead of a Riddler or Penguin even.

I think people dont want the Riddler because he is so similar to what the Joker was, and the Penguin, I could see him as like a mob boss or something, but the whole mob thing has been played out imo.

I've been hearing some other interesting rumors, Robin Williams as Hugo Strange, Zsaz maybe coming back since he is out of Arkham, another rumor is the JGL might be a young Ra's al Ghul

Bane is a solid choice for villain, despite what the horrible Batman and Robin movie portrayed, Bane is actually a very smart criminal who happens to use venom to become super strong, he isn't some mindless ape like people think. He could be a great villain for the series. I would have liked a serial killer Riddler, but I guess they thought it would be too much like Joker, although I think they could have drawn a solid line between.

In the following in-depth interview, the director talks about how he became involved with Batman, his reasoning behind casting Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, Anne Hathaway as "Selina Kyle" and a lot more...

some interview stuff with Chris Nolan about his Batman movies

the one thing that surprised me, was reading that Batman Begins was originally a stand alone film

                              Really!?!?

I came to that conclusion after watching it in an empty theater. What I mean is this,

BB was a test run/ challenge to see if people still cared about Batman after the public watched Joel Shumacker rape the franchise into oblivion! Everyone had low expectations for BB because of this.... This is why BB had such lower ticket sales than TDK.

Fortunately for us Nolan hit it out of the park and because of word of mouth and a "nitch" audience ticket sales warranted a sequal. That's why TDK's success caught a lot people off guard and might have even changed "Hollywood" or atleast ushered it into a new era in Movies.

People came back to to Batman and inturn created the "Superhero" film genre.

TDK followed a pretty avrage summer blockbuster called Batman Begins and broke records.... that's the fuckin crazy thing! How is the 2nd or 3rd highest grossing film of time a fucking SEQUAL to an average summer "popcorn" flick!

When Batman Begins was forged the Nolan brothers and Goyer saw it just as a stepping stone for "street cred" in Hollywood. However the perfect storm emerged propelling TDK to what it is today, and making the Nolans think WTF about Bataman Begins after looking back...

                              ...I don't know I'm buzzed and stoned...

I thought for sure it was meant to be a franchise, I guess looking back at people asking if Nolan would return for each sequel was kind of a give away.

Yea, the original Batman created the craze, along with Superman, then it kinda went quiet till Blade and X Men came out, and restarted the craze, and movies like Spider-Man heightened it, but around the same time, it was also the decline, with like Fantastic Four, Daredevil, etc. BB tried to stir up the craze again I think, then TDK came out, and now Hollywood is relying on these movies, but again, I think it will soon be on the decline. the new x men director even said he took the gig bc he felt these movies were on the decline, honestly, i'm a big comic book guy, and maybe its just bc i never read them, but i dont really buy these Avenger movies, like Cap, Thor, etc, they seem like cash ins really, even Iron Man 3, from what i've read, the movie is really just another movie for heroes like Cap and Thor to appear after the Avenger movie, which is why i'm glad Jon F left, knowing this

i'm gonna stop my ramble about the movies now, lol

yea, i laugh at the box office results of the 2, BB was like 1/3 if that of TDK in gross

also, Jon Nolan had nothing to do with BB, he only started working on Batman with TDK and TDKR, which some people suspect is why TDK's story was better, which I kind of agree with, I loved Memento, and The Prestige, but didnt care for that Terminator movie he went uncredited on
