It pretty much equals death either way. No one in those times is going to the arthouse cinema either.

This is America. Explosions and tits reign supreme everywhere.

Without watching old films on TCM, all I could read from the trailer was, "Chicago 2: Chicago Harder" or maybe "Nine," but the timeframe's off.

You're never going to see Flappers or otherwise stong, non-artificial female roles in movies that aren't musicals today (discounting "Haywire" or the "...Dragon Tattoo remake) so there's no comparison.

Now if they pull off a "Singing in the Rain," unironically, then they deserve kudos.

I realized while reading this thread that I have not seen many movies this year. I slacked a ton on that, not sure if it was because of being busier or just losing interest in films. Only saw Moneyball, Ides of March and Dragon Tattoo in theaters this year.

Weird. Anyway, it's not you it's me Palooza. Carry on.

Or "Important Dramas" like a 'Contagion' or a 'King's Speech' or most recently, 'Tinker Tailor...'

It's like you got throw together a mountain of great character actors into a movie or be British to sell said Dramas.

Sadly, you still won't beat the Big, Dumb Blockbuster, the Tits, or the Haunted House (Boo Scares abound in "The Devil Inside") here in the U.S.

I haven't seen the trailer, I've only read a synopsis that says it's basically about a director trying to survive when "talkies" come in style.
Singing in the Rain was a musical where the director moved ahead with the times and made...musicals. The Artist is a silent(mostly) film where the director stays back and wants to continue making silent film.
They obviously take place in the same time period, with the same crossroads, and I read that The Artist even begins at a movie premiere just like Singing in the Rain did.

That's how I came up with my hypothesis

I can't even think of 10 movies that I had any real desire to see this year. I never wanted to go to the movies less.

This was a terrible year, each passing year seemingly gets worse and worse for Hollywood.

I'm not even a fan of black comedies, but I'll check it out because Kate Winslet is in it.

Also Palooza I noticed Rango isn't on your queue big mistake you're making.
