I don't see how the home plate umpire doesn't make the call because the first base umpire clearly had no view.
At least the Utley play was close, even with instant replay.
Burnett showed up and we didn't have to use middle relief, awesome.Comment

Which makes no sense because last month everyone was crowing about how our bullpen was suddenly a major strength with the emergence of Hughes....all of a sudden he runs out of bullets and we are back to hoping for 7 or 8 innings from our starters.....You know Giradi has no confidence in those guys when he brings in Damaso lol....Roberston the only guy outside of Mo I think Giradi still has faith in.....they did add Bruney to the roster so maybe he'll make an appearanceComment

Let's hope the Yankee line-up wakes up a little bit. Bottom of the order needs to start contributing.
off day tomorrow, pettitte pitches Saturday, C.C. sunday and Burnett MondayComment

That's a pretty big risk for the Yankees to go with that strategy, hopefully it blows up in their face.
Words can't describe how big Game 3 is. If the Phils win, then they don't have to use Lee on 3 days rest, they can take a shot with Blanton/Happ (who have both been good this season). If the Yankees win, you have to come back with Lee on short rest because you cannot go down 3-1 to NY.
It's gonna be nuts Sat night -- Pettitte is the truth in the playoffs, hopefully the 08 Hamels shows up.Comment

Not really a risk, it's our best option when you look at the big picture.....we gotta go with our best pitchers.....Giradi's not going to take a chance and spot start Ace or Chaudin....Chamberlain's shot this season, so you know he's not going risk starting him.....that just leaves the big 3Comment

Pettite will be tough saturday night, and Hamels better take some inspiration from Lee and The Old Goat. Sick and tired of his "woe me" bullshit, start pitching like a MVP!
My X-mas list:
1) Instant replay in MLB
2) Computerized K-Zone, what the hell kind of k-zone was that last night?!? And I mean that for both sides. The night before was iffy too, but last nights was just plain retarded.
3) Send all Umpires back to baseball school.

Man that was a tough game. Pedro pitched pretty well, the Phils just could not touch Burnett. Howard looked might mortal last night, especially considering he's supposed to be this RHP killer.
Need a big game from Hamels tomorrow. We all know what he's capable of, but he hasn't looked "right" all year, so we'll see which version comes out.
Is it just me, or is Burnett one of the ugliest dudes of all time?Comment

Those are all good. The strike zone was iffy, but it was at least consistent. I was more pissed off at the Phils for looking at outside curveballs for strike 3 time and time again. Eventually it has to sink in that he's calling those. :banghead:Comment

Last night he was calling the outside pitch all game, hitters have to adjust and can't just take it.Comment

You guys make good points, but then why even have a plate? I mean if the plate really doesn't provide any basis for the k-zone if an ump can set up his at his liberty. 5 inches of the plate on one side and nada on the other. Have the zone 2 feet tall while you are at or 1 foot tall.
I am glad it was consistent, but if they are gonna set up that zone, than that call should happen everytime, and the zone should increase or decrease mid game depending on the pitcher out there.
Hell the computer can set that up, the ump punches in some settings and voila, you got a consistent zone depending on each ump's preference. And you still enjoy your human aspect.
I just get pissed when:
1) the zone changes while in the middle of the game.
2) the call isn't made everytime.
