Dunn will probably be worth every penny of his 56 million dollar deal, especially when he's playing DH which will take away most of his negative value.
Yeah, last year with WAR was around 3 and that's WITH shitty defense. Take that awful defense away, put him in a park that's absolutely perfect for someone with his power and he'll be just fine.

That being said, he's a decent signing. Nothing earth shattering, and certainly not anything that's likely to push the White Sox over the top or anything. If anything he's a poor man's Jim Thome circa his time with the White Sox.
That's bad context though. You point to his .231 avg with RISP career, but negate his .411 OBP with RISP and .890 OPS. And also...of course he's going to have a low average with RISP career, because he has a low average regardless.

It's why "clutch" arguments are largely stupid in career context. For the most part, over enough at-bats, players numbers will normalize in clutch or RISP positions to what they do normally regardless of situation.

      Dunn career: .250/.381/.902
      Dunn career RISP: .231/.411/.890

He has 199 career home runs with no runners on (1372 AB) and 155 with men on base (1311 AB).

Dunn is probably the most underated offensive player of his generation. I hated that the Reda traded him.

But he intentionally doesn't drive in guys when they are on base. DUH!

Who gives a shit if he "only hits solo home runs"? A solo HR is still a guaranteed run.
