Werth Close to Deal With Nats

Absolutely not.
He just isn't.
Career OPS+ of 122 has a career year at age 31 (145 OPS+). They have him signed until he's 38. Does anyone honestly believe Werth is still going to be an effective player into his late 30s?
Not a chance.
Not a great deal for the Nats, at all.Comment

We overpaid him but I'm going to love having his bat in our lineup. He's an immediate upgrade over Bernadina and MorseComment

My only question is what happens when Bryce Harper is ready to come to the majors. Werth is going to make too much money to be moved so my only guess is that Willingham will be gone whenever Harper is big league ready and he'll play left field.Comment

Willingham has already been in some trade talks... so who knows what happens to him. I personally like this signing by the Nats even though i don't like the Nats. He's about to get a million D batteries thrown at him when he returns to Philly.

It's a shame that Bernadina will now be forced to the bench in a fourth OF role. I had high hopes for himComment

I don't see how anyone can think this isn't one of the worst long-term deals ever. In the Zito, Kevin Brown, Chan Ho Park, Bobby Higginston territory.
There is absolutely no way he'll be worth this deal even by the 2nd or 3rd year.Comment

Carl Crawford is currently dancing in the street though. Nats just made the market for him.Comment
