I liked the Hariston Jr trade. He can play all over the field, won a WS before with the Yankees, and plays with heart. Solid bench player and spot starter. Had a pretty good season so far this year. Solid.

Hate seeing Furcal to the Cardinals though. I really think he could have been a huge upgrade at SS. Betancourt got hot at the right time (.290 AVG since June 20th, 2nd best in terms of SS) and he has been alright on defense the past month as well. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Lopez/Hariston at least provide some stability on the bench when Weeks comes back.

One last move I would love for Melvin to make is to try and get either Mike Gonzalez from the Orioles, or Matt Thornton from the White Sox. Brewers need to add a LHRP before the end of the deadline and I think we would be a solid team after that.

I would also love to see Barmes in a Brewer uni, but Ed Davis is a moron. He said Barmes was not available, a FA after the season, and the Astros are like 30 games under .500. He won't trade Barmes but he'll trade Pence and Bourn (rumored to be ava)

    Makes no sense at all.

For whatever reason, Harden to the BoSox is off.

They could try and get it done later today though I guess.

Fell through because of medical concerns. Rich Harden has injury issues, who could have known?

Can't believe the disparity in asking prices by different teams. Astros seemingly could have gotten more in Bourn, Pence deals. Don't know by how much but it doesn't look like anyone the Braves are giving up had a serious future in Atlanta. On the flip side, Cleveland paid dearly for Ubaldo Jimenez, a move which won't even put them over the top. Very weird deadline indeed.

if #yankees land bell, theyll have greatest set-up combo ever: robertson, soriano and bell (w/joba on shelf). #padres

Don't know why we need another setup man but Robertson, Soriano (He's back), Bell then get the ball to Mo, Game Over

I suppose we can trade Bell after this season but I don't really get it. Unless Mo retires after this season but still has one more year on his deal and we also have Soriano.

I thought Ed Wade did a great job on the Hunter Pence trade, but the Bourn trade is terrible. Is he retarded? Bourn>Pence.

It was hardly a great job. They dealt a great young OF who is still under team control for at least 2 more years. They certainly got a pair of PHI's top 10 prospects but hardly their best pitching or hitting prospect.

I think they could have gotten more in the off-season when the number of teams bidding is much larger.

Are you still considering Brown a "prospect"? And who was ahead of Cosart?

Given that both Pence and Bourn were under team control for a while, they should have held onto both. I know that the Astros aren't going anywhere, but those aren't pieces that you get rid of.
