I'm okay with Verlander winning. There wasn't a clear-cut, above-all-others position player to hoard votes. Ellsbury, Bautista, Cabrera split them between each other. A valid case can be made for any of those guys.

There's already an award for best pitcher its called Cy Young. Stick to that

Indeed. Take Verlander out of the team and the Tigers don't make the playoffs, let alone get to the ALCS.

There's also an award for the best hitter, called the Hank Aaron. Neither of them are mutually exclusive to the MVP though.

I don't know if I would go that far, Detroit won the division by 15 games.

I will agree with that. I didn't think Ellsbury should win it, especially since the Red Sox fell off the face of the Earth in September. Yes, I do know that Ellsbury was one of the few players who kept playing well, but Verlander had an excellent season for Detroit, and out of him, Ellsbury and Bautista, we all know who made the playoffs, and who didn't.

If neither of those three teams made the playoffs, I would see the issue with Verlander being the MVP over Ellsbury. But I'm OK with it.

This is logic I can't really vibe with. You are okay with Verlander winning the MVP over Ellsbury because Jonathan Papelbon couldn't get Robert Andino out?

It isn't just Andino. They were terrible in September, and with the talent on that squad they should not have had to rely on getting an average major leaguer out in the final game of the year to make the playoffs.

This is logic I can't really vibe with. You are okay with marginalizing an entire month into a single AB?

My point is that it's stupid to penalize Ellsbury or credit Verlander for the failures of Ellsbury's teammates.

I would have voted for Verlander but not because the Red Sox missed the playoffs.

That's more a testament to how shit the AL Central was, outside of us. Maybe we make the playoffs, but barely.

Detroit doesnt make the playoffs without Verlander. He held that shitty rotation together until Fister showed up. Without Verlander, were not even in position to trade for Fister.
