He has numbers that are definitely interesting but my point (despite him being my dads favorite player of all-time) is that now that we know what a lot of baseball success is predicated on, he gets a lot more credit then he really deserves.

We know now that having so few strikeouts doesn't really mean much if you also never walk. Juan Pierre also never strikes out but it doesn't make him more valuable then a guy with 150 Ks.

True, to a point.

Bottom 8, nobody out, man on second. Who do you want up, the guy who strikes out 15 times per season, or the guy who strikes out 150? Also a rare case where you probably don't want the walk, either. But the last thing you want is the strike out.

I don't want a lineup full of Fox's. But i'd have no problem with a middle IF who literally never strikes out, can bunt to get on or move guys over, hits triples, and leads the league in hits.

With all of that said, not a top 10 guy.

That's really what it comes down to, he's a good player, don't get me wrong. He fit in exactly where he was needed in the Go-Go White Sox of 1959.

However, we're talking about the top 10 at a position ever and there's no way he's near that. He's not bad, but he's certainly not great by any stretch.
