The thing about this guy, is nobody would give a shit (well, not nearly as much anyway) if he was batting 8th.

There is nothing wrong with a great defensive CF staying in the lineup, provided it's at the bottom of the lineup. Especially when he has HR pop, and really great speed batting in front of the P who can bunt him over when he gets on.

Swap Stubbs and Hanigan. Stubbs would go from a maddeningly frustrating top of the order guy, to being the most dangerous 8-hole hitter in the NL. Instead of a void in front of Votto, anything he contributes becomes a bonus.

This 11-game home stand will determine the future of Drew Stubbs. It will take the Reds right up to the deadline, and I fully expect Walt Jocketty to acquire an OF before the 31st if Stubbs does not start producing at the plate.

Quotes from a scout who was assigned to watch Billy Hamilton's first few games in AA:

The Reds have released Joey Gathright according to the International League transactions page. The 31-year-old speedster hit .299/.346/.347 in 161 plate appearances for their Triple-A affiliate after signing out of an independent league back in May.

Something is up.

If the Reds get an OF via trade, I think Stubbs gets optioned to AAA.

What a fun game. Three huge statements made.

One, Dusty leaving Bailey out there to work his way out of the 8th. That was a big moment for Bailey as he grows into something resembling what people thought he would be. He's only 26, which is kinda crazy.

Two, Rolen needed that hit badly. That was not only a huge hit for him, but a huge hit for Dusty, because the piling on would have been enormous had Rolen struck out. Rolen was 4 for 8 in the two starts, so people can not rip Dusty for playing him Saturday & Sunday.

Three, Chapman embarrassing the Cardinals in the 9th, and showing he can go three in a row, which was a gigantic question mark since he has struggled with two in a row many times. He hit 100 three times and it was a vintage "make three guys look ridiculous" Chapman outing.

What a great series. Awesome, awesome stuff.

I'm giving this one to Dusty Baker. He deserves it.

Dusty went against the desires of virtually everyone in Reds nation by running Scott Rolen out at 3B for a second day in a row instead of Todd Frazier, yet Rolen delivered with the 2 RBI single in the 8th that proved to be the winning hit. Dusty, who had said in pre-game interviews that he needed Homer to pitch deep into the game in order to give the bullpen a break, also opted to leave his young starter in with 2 men on and no outs in the 8th...and Homer came through big time, getting out of the inning with no damage. Our manager also opted to sit Drew Stubbs in favor of Chris Heisey, he of the 3 for 8 w/ 3 HR career line vs. Jake Westbrook, and Heisey responded by going 3 for 4.

For a guy who often deservedly catches a lot of flak from us, Dusty sticks to his guns and does things his own way. When they work, like tonight, he deserves a lot of credit for putting his players in positions to succeed. Rolen, Bailey, and Heisey certainly did their part, no doubt, but Dusty did a great job of providing them the opportunity. Cool cat, that Dusty.

That eighth inning was when it’s time you have to step up and really be a man, and Homer did — with some tough hitters up there, real tough hitters. He was dealing and had strike one on most hitters to keep his pitch-count low

I saw a great stat earlier.

Chapman is 2.0 WAR already this year.

To put that in perspective, Cordero, who was mediocre at worst and pretty good at best, had a total combined WAR of 2.8 in four seasons as a Red.

A 4.0 WAR closer is absurd. He'd probably end up more valuable than every starter aside from Cueto, since Latos started off so horribly.

Stubbs last stand...this has got to be one of Dusty's infamous shows of faith, but it's July 16 so if Stubbs doesn't start producing he will be benched at minimum, or replaced and either sent to AAA or traded for whoever replaces him at maximum.

Any chance Stubbs is being showcased to Arizona for four days as a leadoff hitter as a possible Upton chip? Maybe he beats out some grounders and steals some bags, and they fall in love with his skillset like Reds fans have?
