The Reds and Jonathan Broxton have reached agreement on a multi-year deal, sources told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The deal is believed to be for at least three years and an announcement is expected on Wednesday.

Broxton deal is 3 years, $21M.

      Year 1 - $4M
      Year 2 - $7M
      Year 3 - $9M

      Year 4 - $9M team option w/$1M buyout

What a relief. I still don't like Broxton, and it gets a little hefty year 3, but I can live with this. This isn't enough money to where the team can use the "we are paying him so much that he just has to be the closer" excuse.

I am really curious to know what Madson got from LAA.

madson gets $3.5M guaranteed, $2.5M roster bonus (just has to be on roster) plus $1M incentives. so likely $6M plus

Aroldis Chapman is going to enter spring training next February as a starter. Should he also emerge as one, there will have to be a limit on the amount of innings that he throws in 2013 because he topped out at 71 2/3 frames as the Reds’ closer in 2012.

But that innings limit won’t be all that strict.

Reds pitching coach Bryan Price told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer on Wednesday afternoon that he will “see where [Chapman] is in terms of innings and pitches after 25 or 30 starts.” Which is basically a full season for most healthy starting pitchers in the major leagues.

“We’ll know a lot more by the time we get to spring training,” Price added. “I don’t think there’s an absolute. You have to have a plan and hope it works. Any time you have a young pitcher and he’s going to surpass his inning total, there’s going to be questions if he gets hurt. We can’t be scared of that.

          Chapman has a dominant 2.33 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 14.1 K/9 in 135 career major-league innings.

The 25-year-old left-hander is under contract with the Reds through the conclusion of the 2015 season.
I like the sound of this. Sounds to me like the Reds won't be living in fear like the Nats did, and will just play things by ear.

If the team is out of it, and he's got 180 innings, shut him down.

If the team is in the race, and he's not showing signs of slowing down, ride that horse. He started for years in Cuba. Let him go.

Cozart and Leake for Justin Upton. Make it happen.

Do not want Dexter Fowler, would rather just keep Stubbs. He's not a HUGE upgrade and def not worth giving up Bailey for.

Reds need a 3B or LF, but looking more & more like they will leave Frazier at 3B and seek a LF.

Emmanuel Burris, Didi Gregorius, Henry Rodriguez, Scott Rolen (FA) are in house options for the Cairo/Valdez UTIL spots.

*If Reds find a new CF, Stubbs could be history, because I don't think they'll carry three backup OF's and only one IF/UTIL.

I'm worried about the potential signing of Hannahan or the return of Rolen keeping Frazier on the bench another year. I really, really hope that doesn't happen.

Neither of those guys would start over Frazier. Especially Hannhan, who has always been a bench guy aside from one year in Oakland.

I think Rolen recognizes that if he comes back, it's in the Cairo CI role.

Also, I think if Hannahan signs, that will spell the end of Rolen anyway. The bench would be Mesoraco, Heisey, Paul, Hannahan, ???. The last spot would have to go to a middle infielder. Hannahan plays 3B almost exclusively, and you have Frazier to back up 1B.

Jocketty shot that down, but who knows. Jocketty is the most vague and deceptive GM around.

How about the rumors surrounding this guy http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...eazaal01.shtml
