Should Atlanta be concerned that he no longer has to frequently play in San Francisco or Los Angeles anymore? Upton's road splits are skewed considering he has played a large percentage of his games at extreme pitcher parks, with really good pitching staffs.

    Last three years data:
    @ San Francisco .231/.317/.341
    @ Los Angeles .184/.236/.359
    All other road parks .267/.350/.425

      Prado WAR: 15.8
      Upton WAR: 13.1

I happen to put very little stock in some of these wonky WAR numbers, but I find it funny that the hardcore SABR crowd will generally use WAR as the authoritative argument ender, yet nary a peep about the above from the usual media suspects.

I guess WAR is only useful when it suits the argument.

FG has Upton at 17.1 WAR and Prado at 15.8...

          OK.

So Upton is roughly "one win" better over the course of 6 seasons or so. Either measure you use, that's pretty negligible.

My gripe here is not Upton vs Prado. My gripe here, is the pick & choose reliance on a pretty flawed stat.

I've always thought Prado was underrated. As a Nats fan, I'm glad he's gone. Always a tough out. Played great defense and was a smart baserunner. I think he'll only excel in Arizona.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

1 win better... And four years younger with more power.

Not to mention under contract until 2015 at some pretty club friendly numbers for a power bat in the corner OF.

1 win over 6 seasons is nothing.

Also, i'm not arguing Prado is better. Quite the opposite if you step back and understand what im saying.

                      Last 6 seasons?
So we are holding Justin Upton's age 19 season, where he only had 152 at bats, equal to Prado's age 23 season? Not everyone is Bryce Harper.

Justin Upton through his age 24 season: 17.1 WAR
Martin Prado through his age 24 season: 0.9 WAR

Practically equal! You sound like your friend who argues that Mark Trumbo is better then Adam Dunn, all while completely ignoring player age.

                        Season A: 260/302/385, 13 HR, 26 2B, 2 3B, 4 SB, 8 CS, 87 OPS+

                        Season B: 252/327/514, 34 HR, 35 2B, 5 3B, 9 SB, 3 CS, 118 OPS+

You know where i'm going with this. Both men are competent fielders.

                        Season A: 1.8 WAR
                        Season B: 1.4 WAR

Stop using Baseball reference WAR. K? Thx.

Player B's fangraph's WAR is 2.4, and that's after losing almost a full win due to defense and baserunning. Player A's fangraph's WAR is 1.6 (a large part of this is from defense).

You're still ignoring variables here. A lot of Prado's value has came from time spent at second or third base.
