Halladay is by far the most consistent pitcher in the league, save MAYBE Johan. Hes been doing it consistently for over 5 years now. Dude is a horse. And the fact that so few ppl have mentioned him in this thread shows me the lack of respect he gets. For shame.

Halladay in the AL and Santana in the NL.

It makes me sick the lack of run support Santana gets. Halladay is consistent as can be, every year it seems he's leading the league in W's.

I'm gonna have to change my pick to Halladay. The guy is extremely underrated. Being a fan of the orioles, I see Halladay multiple times a year and the guy has some sick stuff.

He's not mentioned more because he's not the best pitcher.

                    Pretty simple logic.

I think the mark of the best pitcher is asking yourself.. if you had a game you HAVE to win.. who would you want to take the mound for you?

In that case.. I'd say Santana or Josh Beckett. Lincecum and Greinke are outstanding young pitchers as well. And while Roy Halladay is consistent.. and a damn good pitcher in his own right.. I like Johan or Beckett in a big game over anyone.

I think what holds Roy back is not his fault.. he has never pitched in the postseason.. so he's overlooked a lot because of it.

i agree with this, but i think were talking about whos the best pitcher as it stands right now, not who youd want in the postseason

id want beckett over lincecum in postseason any day

but in terms of whos a better pitcher on a regular basis its lincecum

Zack Greinke has a career record of 40-46 and a career high 13 wins in one season and you guys honestly believe he belongs in this conversation?
                        Jeez.
One fast start and he's friggin Bob Gibson.

Some of you guys really need to find out that baseball was played before 2009.

Which is why I hate these best pitcher arguments because a lot of people leave out run support, which if really low can hurt a guys record i.e. Dan Haren.
i.e. Matt Cain over the past 2 years

were talking about whos the best pitcher in baseball right now, which he is, in mine i specifically said that, if were talking about always i dont think he falls in the top 25-30 for me, but as it stands this season, hes #1
