Super teams is such an NBA idea. It's bad enough the difference one player can make, how it's a player-driven league that can reject coaching/coaches, etc. Now guys like Paul and Melo can just force their way out into a big city with other superstars and in essence run that team, get more calls from the refs. In the NBA, the inmates run the asylum.

actually the dolan folded by offering half the fuking team for melo
and leaving the knicks with melo and 5 other scrubs in the playoff, getting their asses handed to them by a team that would go on to be swept by losing finals team...

dolan stepped in, told donnie walsh to go home, all to get melo 3 months early and continue that celebrated knicks run of no playoff wins since 2001...
now Walsh is gone, Amare's a question mark and after Melo only 2 other guys are under contract past this year, So who's building this next powerhouse of a team?
oh right....

Isiah's not coming back, that would mark the apocalypse.
And look at the pieces we did give Denver.
Look at it this way. If Melo had 4 more years on his contract at the time we traded for him, would Denver still take the deal? They Felton (who they traded away), Chandler (whose in China), Galo (useful, but one dimensional), Mozgov (lol shitty russian on a shitty contract). + useless draft picks.
New York got a STEAL, Melo is a top 10 player in the NBA. Knick fans are just upset because we could have had him much cheaper. But that's a big could, as we have no idea if Melo would have signed the extension with the Bulls or any other team (and why wouldnt he?) He'd be giving up a lot of dough if he didnt.Comment

Using that logic... most deadline trades in any sport would be lop-sided.
The deal was good for both teams because...
1.New York needed/wanted another superstar and role players are easier to find then stars.
2.Denver got some actual useful peices back for a player who was NEVER going to sign another contract for them.Comment

The Jersey offer was tons better than the Knick offer, point being Denver wasn't roped into anything. I fully believe that if they stuck to their guns, they could have sent Melo to Jersey and he would've signed, no matter what the rumors said.
A gamble, I guess.
------
Apparently, the Knicks are only offering FA's 1-year deals to maintain flexibility for next year. So, don't expect them to sign anyone significant.
Plus, New Orleans has spoken with them about Paul but the Post says they don't like the roster and figure there isn't enough for a trade.
