That's just it, Bust insinuates he did not do anything for his team in a positive sense.
Vick did do positive things for Atlanta
Ron Dayne did nothing for New York
Ryan Leaf did nothing for San Diego
Brian Bosworth did nothing for Seattle
the list goes on and on.
if anything, it's a differen't opinion on what insuates or makes a player a "bust".
I don't think vick was a bust, I don't think he completely lived up to the hype, but Atlanta wanted a guy that could win games, they got a guy who took them to the playoffs multiple years and even had a conference title game appearence, he holds NFL records, whatever they may be, and he was more often then not an electrifying player on the field.
Wasn't a great player, maybe not even a good player, but the guy won some big games. and not because he had a supporting cast.
A #1 pick should not be replaced by a 3rd overall pick at the same position .. when said #1 pick was only 26 years old.
A #1 pick should not have a career rating of 75.7
Period.
He's a bust.Last edited by Hasselbeck; 06-12-2009, 01:38 PM.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

Spin it in my favor?
What?
The context of Peerless Price was obvious. What the hell are you talking about? The context of bringing Price in was that The Falcons never brought guys in for Vick. They did. Horn was one of them. Unless they brought him in for Harrington knowing that Vick was running a dog fighting ring.....?
So they brought Horn in to hurt Vick? What other reason would they have to bring Horn in? To teach Roddy White TD's celebrations?
Horn wasnt brought in for Vick so much as he was brought in for the Falcon's young receivers in Roddy White and Michael Jenkins. He was a mentor for Roddy especially and helped turn his swag on.Comment

Horn was brought into help Vick. That was the context.Comment

No, thats the context you want it to be bcus you were wrong from the jump. Its ok to be wrong once in a while you know..
And even if you want to go by that "context" the Falcons did a terrible job of bringing in help. As Horn was a washed up bum by that point.Last edited by Kuzzy Powers; 06-12-2009, 01:43 PM.Comment

The point is.. Matt Ryan would not be an Atlanta Falcon if Vick weren't a bust.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

The Falcons knew Joe Horn was on the down side of his career, they knew he physically wasnt capable of what he thought he was. But they gave him a fat contract to basically come in and be a WR mentor. The guy was on the sidelines in street clothes wearing a coaching headset for the ladder part of the season.Comment

I said that 40 posts ago and everyone treated me like I was speaking in some foreign voodoo language. I respect Vick for what he did when he was playing for Atlanta but I'm happier with this new team that was able to form because of Vick's absence.Comment

I assumed nothing.
I knew the Falcons brought in Horn to help Vick. Just as they had done with Price, White and Jenkins.
That's it.
And Price failed with him, Horn never got the chance, and White and Jenkins failed until he left.
So it was for TD's celebrations!Comment

Seeing LT break the TD record and Brees throw for 4000 yards a year isn't exciting?
Originally posted by J.HenGetting Vick inevitably led to the Falcon team of today, where the team has a complete offense with every piece of the puzzle needed to win on the offensive side of the ball.
Vick's absence also led to them signing a running back (Mike's that amazing I guess) that would post career numbers and finish 2nd in rushing on the year.
Originally posted by J.HenThe bottom line with all this for me is that Vick made the Falcons exciting and the time he spent in ATL up until Matt Ryan took over was something I enjoyed seeing. Matt Ryan makes the Falcons relevant though, something Vick could not do consistently enough.
That's just me though.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

I mean - if you pick a guy #1 overall and give him a $100 million dollar contract.. I'd expect a little more out of that investment.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

LOL. Terrible argument. LT isn't the face of the Chargers franchise? The Falcons could have had a chance to draft both LT and Brees.. those two guys aren't "faces" of their respected franchises?
Seeing LT break the TD record and Brees throw for 4000 yards a year isn't exciting?
And bringing Drew Brees into all this is just dumb, come on. The Falcons went with the appealing potential phenom QB in Vick with their first pick instead of LT. The Falcons taking Brees later is just pushing the whole thing too far and pointless to bring up.
You're right. Vick's ineptness at QB paired with a terrible decision off the field led to them drafting Matt Ryan.
Vick's absence also led to them signing a running back (Mike's that amazing I guess) that would post career numbers and finish 2nd in rushing on the year.
Michael Turner would not have went to Atlanta if Vick was still playing today. Petrino was brought in specifically to make Vick into a great passer (ha) and after Vick got in trouble Petrino bailed.
Had Vick not got in trouble, Petrino would of stuck around, the Falcons would not have needed the massive over haul in personnel and Dimitroff would not have gotten brought in. Dimitroff went out and signed Michael Turner because he saw what he could potentially provide for the team and he was right. So yes, Vick's dumb choices led to the new Falcon team.
Vick was winning and contending for part of the career, his problem was he couldnt be consistent with his style of play.Comment

Fair enough. I'm just looking at what he did on the field and what his poor decisions led to. Is Vick a great guy? I dont know nor could I care really. He was a good player while he was in Atlanta and was easily the greatest at what he did. If he could of had a full career he would of shattered every mark for running QBs.Comment
