    Freeman Error

Yeah I figured they were looking for Robiskie but in the days leading up to the draft I really didn't expect him to be there but I was hopeful.

After Robiskie and Barden(he would have been a reach in the 2nd I suppose) went I figured the Bears wouldn't be able to find a WR with their pick.

      3rd Rd

Jarron Gilbert, DE San Jose St- Can't say I'm wild about the pick. Guy seems like an athletic freak but I would have preferred a WR at this point even after the trade down but honestly at this point every WR I wanted the Bears to choose was off the board. Sounds like this guy could fill an Israel Idonije type role for us playing some DE and DT. Real versatile. A guy that Smith and Miranelli love.

      Grade: B

Juaquin Iglesias, WR Oklahoma- Well, the Bears took a WR but I'm not sold on him. Could still be hungover from the entire Mark Bradley deal with him being from Oklahoma as well but Iglesias was not a covnerted DB at Oklahoma and has no injury problems so treating this as a seperate case it's a solid pick. He seems like he will be a great slot guy for us and eventually could challenege Bennett for the #2 role later in camp. Question is will he see the field this year as Bennett didn't and was taken in the 3rd Rd last year?

      Grade: B

      4th Rd

Henry Melton, DE Texas- A converted fullback to the DE position the benefit of Miranelli will pay off here helping develop Melton into a good DE. Melton transitioned to DE very well for Texas and with the Bears depth on the D-Line won't be thrown into the fire and will have time to develop even more

      Grade: B

DJ Moore, CB Vanderbilt- Undersized as all hell but a perfect fit for the Cover 2. Great ball skills and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. A guy who hopefully is in the Nate Vasher mold and can make an impact early on. Could challenge Corey Graham for playing time right away.

      Grade: B

      5th Rd

Johnny Knox, WR Abaline-Christian- Didn't like the pick at all. Sure the guy is a burner but where does he fit in? Is he a slot guy? Do you use him on returns with Manning? There are a lot more questions here than answers and at this point in the draft if we were going to take a WR I would have rather seen Quan Cosby from Texas.

      Grade: C-

Marcus Freeman, OLB, Ohio State- Love this pick. With all the problems finding another LB to line up with Urlacher and Briggs I think thi spick solves the problem. Hillenmeyers best days are behind him and Nick Roach was less than impressive last year. I think the Bears got a real steal here and I expect Freeman to be starting at LB by the mid way point next season.

      Grade: B+

      6th Rd

Al Afalava, S Oregon St- Surprised it took this long to take a safety but I like the pick. Reminds me of Mike Brown in some ways. Mainly with his hitting. Not as good ball skills as Mike Brown but another guy late in the draft that I would expect to push for playign time this year, especially with the Bears lack of a real solid safety corps.

      Grade: B

      7th Rd

Lance Louis, TE San Diego State-Last year I was confused about the Kellen Davis Jr pick with us having Olsen and Clark on the roster so this year I'm even more confused by THIS pick with the aforementioned three still on the roster. It's a 7th Rd pick so I won't get too caught up in it but still a head scratcher none the less.

      Grade: D

Derek Kinder, WR Pittsburgh- Love this pick. Again a 7th Rd pick so I won't get too excited because last year I was pumped when we got Marcus Monk last year in the 7th and felt that he could have been a good player for us. What does he do? Drop a pass over the middle in a preseason game and is cut. Hopefully Kinder fares betters this year and I will try to keep my excitement down but if given a chance and his knee recovers from tearing it up in 2007 he could be a surprise guy who makes the roster and gets some playing time. The Bears don't really have any established WR's so even this 7th Rounder has a shot if he can get on the field and make some plays and catch the coaches eyes. Kinder could be that bigger bodied threat and guy who can "go get it" that the team needs.

      Grade: B

      Overall Grade: B

Looks like Eric Peterman, that Rideau guy, and maybe another guy will be fighting it out for the last spot on the roster as a WR. Hoping for Peterman.

Hey what did they do with Marcus Monk from last year. Will he be in camp? Or anything.

Do you guys think they should/could entertain talking to Mike Brown to come back in some sort of reserve role.

I don't think they bring back Brown. There's a lot of people that would like them to, but I don't see them going back on a decision. Why not Rex as a backup for that matter? Serious.
I'm pretty sure Monk is on the practice squad. Bears could def bring back brown for a pretty cheap price, but they like Hanie and have another QB on their depth chart already so i highly doubt they'd bring back Rex.

It wouldn't surprise me if they bring back Brown but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Monk was cut last season during the preseason and the Giants picked him up then cut him.

He then went back to Arkansas to play basketball, played for a few months then was dismissed from the team.

He's currently out of football. Not on the Bears practice squad.

Meh the Urlacher hate gets old. Sure he's not as good as he was in 2005 but the guy is still a Top 5 MLB and can play the Cover 2 like few MLB's can.

Freeman, Urlacher, Briggs as a linebacking corps sound spretty good by the halfway point of the season.

Honestly if our DL doesn't get better it doesn't matter who the hell we have at LB.

And yes, if Freeman can start this season - Urlacher, Briggs, Freeman will be very interesting.
If Nick fucking Roach can start last year Freeman should be a Pro-Bowler this year.

Freeman, Briggs, And B-lak FTW. Freeman has to be an auto upgrade over Roach. The D line has sooo much more depth, and R Marinelli now. Hopefully they play much much better than they did last year.

Rookie Lance Louis will be "moving to" guard. A position he played his JR year in college. He played RT his Sr year and played the first two years as a TE.

Good, should give him plenty of time to learn the position.

Seemed like the rookie WR's impressed people this weekend in camp. Lot's of talk about how Kinder looked real good and how Iglesias was looking good too. I guess Knox had a good 2nd day but he's so raw I refuse to get to up on him.

Cutler, Hanie, and Hester stopped by practice this week too.
