Shit....Osi said he won't practice so the Giants sent him home for the day.
Osi Umenyiora has told the Giants he will not practice with the team tonight, setting up a showdown that a source familiar with the mess said “could get real ugly” in the next few days.…
Doesn't look as good as I had hoped earlier.

Young Giants LBs making people take note in practice so far...
Translation: there’s lots of playing time to be won for the Giants’ young linebackers. And some of them stated their case by making some big plays on Wednesday night in the first full-pads practice of camp.
“They’ve been aggressive and noteworthy in their play,” coach Tom Coughlin said after practice. “Sometimes they’re in the wrong spot or something, but they recover and they seem to be able to go and make some things happen. I like the way they’re running around.”
Young linebackers such as second-year men Phillip Dillard and Kenny Ingram, as well as rookies Mark Herzlich, Spencer Paysinger and Jacquian Williams all made at least one noticeable play on Wednesday.
Coughlin said those players should realize there’s an opportunity to be had right now.
“Just let it go. Come on in here and give it all you’ve got,” Coughlin said of the young linebackers. “You have absolutely nothing to lose. … That’s what we’re getting. I like their attitude. I listen to the way they chirp away and I like what I hear.”
Coughlin and the defensive coaches will also like what they see when they watch the film of this session. A breakdown right after we run down the injuries.
THE YOUNG LINEBACKERS
(They’re getting their own section in this report because, as I noted above, they were that impressive.)
Ingram, a former safety, showed his athleticism by jamming the tight end and then crossing the middle of the field to quickly make a stop on WR Darius Reynaud as he caught a ball over the middle. (S Jarrard Tarrant was there and probably should have picked the pass off but whiffed completely.) And again, Ingram used his wheels to track down RB Charles Scott on a screen pass.
Dillard had some moments that weren’t so hot, especially in coverage, but he also made some really good plays down low. In one sequence he got small to get through traffic in stopping RB Da’Rel Scott and then came right back to clog a hole and force a draw play to be bounced outside.
They said Williams was a “run-and-chase” linebacker, but he laid the wood on one play Wednesday. He hit Da’Rel Scott hard in the hole on one play. The pads were popping big time on that one.
Paysinger had a pair of passes defensed, one right after another. The undrafted free agent from Oregon has looked pretty darn good early on here. And if he makes it big, I think he has the right name for one of those Costacos Bros. posters: “Spencer is gonna make you Pay.”
Herzlich, who is being trailed by “60 Minutes” cameras for a feature to be aired in September (guess he’s making the team, huh?) came out of nowhere to make a stop on a run that looked like it was going to be a huge gainer. There was nobody in an enormous gap in the defensive line except OL Mitch Petrus, but Herzlich somehow got there to turn a big gasher into a short gainer.
Rookie S Tyler Sash had a pretty cool pass defensed on a flare route for Beckum. I didn’t pick up Sash until late, so I didn’t see how he got down low to cover Beckum, but he was there and knocked the ball away while his back was to the quarterback and the pass. He made the play on instinct.
And finally, more promising signs from DT Marvin Austin, who absolutely rag dolled an OL on one play to throw the blocker out of the way on a run by Da’Rel Scott. He didn’t make the stop, but he blew up the play. And the way he shed the blocker was amazing. One play later, he beat OL Ike Ndukwe for a pressure on the quarterback. I’m rather sure it was Ndukwe on the play before as well, but I’m not positive because the blocker got lost in traffic and when Austin threw him to the side. Either way. Austin continues to impress, though he was drawn offside (along with DE Alex Hall) on Rosenfels’ hard count.

From the WSJ:
BY ADITI KINKHABWALA
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—And so the game of chicken between the Giants and defensive end Osi Umenyiora continues.
The Giants made the first move Wednesday, rescinding the permission they'd given Umenyiora's agent to seek a trade to a team who'd pay the 29-year-old more money.
General Manager Jerry Reese then told Umenyiora to go home for the day, "clear his head" and come back in the morning, according to a person apprised of that conversation. Then practice came and Umenyiora was dressed, on the sidelines, riding a bike and catching the Giants' brass unaware.
Umenyiora now has the next move, and Umenyiora now has the next move, and a person close to him said it very likely could be telling Reese he'll undergo knee surgery to repair a meniscus injury and sit out the season.

Osi had something to say about Giants front office.
"What really annoys me is the hypocrisy of people clamoring for my head for asking for a new deal or to be traded," Umenyiora wrote in the email to The AP. "Saying I have 2 years left on my deal. These contracts only mean something to us? Where is O'Hara? Where is Seubert? True inspirational football players.
"They were cut after being injured," he said. "They have years left on their deal. Why is Jacobs asked to take a pay cut? He has years left on his deal. The fact is in the business we are in, if you get injured, or they feel like you underperformed, they cut you without hesitation. But if you clearly outplay your contract, and ask for something to be done, you're a bad guy and not a team player. It's ridiculous."
Osi telling it like it is. That's why I never get upset when football players hold out. It's the unfortunate truth about their cold-blooded business. Just look at Jerricho Cotchery. He's been nothing but a good soldier for the Jets - never complained, just went out and made big plays. Now, because they're concerned about his injury problems, he gets dumped in favor of 37-year-old Derrick Mason.Comment

Jacobs restructured and can still make the same $ - few hundred thousand. He could a been a free agent if he wanted to get cut. Glad he stayed.
Osi signed a 41mil 6 year contract. He made 9mil in 2008 not playing a regular season down on the IR. 2009 he played like a bum coming off a injury but still made 4mil.
Last year he played great but would you give a big contract to a headcase player that has injury history? If he could play at that level 2 seasons on a row then yes but that hasnt happened yet.
If he is taking the "surgery" line I hope all 31 other teams blacklist him.Comment

WTF?
TE Ben Patrick retired today. So now the Giants TE corps is back down to Travis Beckum and Bear Pascoe.
ALSO, rookie corner Prince Amukamara broke his foot and will have to undergo surgery. He's almost assured to miss a couple months.
