Giants finished 12-4 the year after the Super Bowl with the second toughest schedule in the league. I thought they were going to make another big playoff run, but losing Plaxico killed us against Philly. Haven't been the same since - Spags left, the o-line wore down and the defense became a joke.Comment

LOL your the idiot if you think Plax being gone downgraded the team that much.
there was more involved than just the lack of his presence. he didnt carry the team by any stretch of the imagination.
get a clue you arm chair sports fan dweebsComment

Dude are you fucking kidding me? If you think Plax going out didn't take all the momentum out of our team during that season then your on fucking crack. Not to mention, our WHOLE offensive strategy changed when he went out. ESPECIALLY against the Eagles who we lost both games against and still haven't beat since Plaxico left. When Plax played the Eagles, he fucking dominated, they doubled him almost every down. When he left, and especially the playoff game, they brought everybody in the box, we had no deep ball receiver anymore. So the Eagles stopped our run game and forced Eli to pass to receivers like a young Steve Smith, old Amani, and fucking Domenik Hixon.
Last but damn sure not least, I still can't get over that you just used the word dweeb.Comment

You guys are out of your minds if you think losing that moron is the biggest reason for your struggles. It is not. Yes, losing him the way you did hurt you in 2008, but it was not the only reason for losing to a squad such as the Eagles.
And that certainly wasn't the reason for your nosedive last year and your struggles to start the year this year.
You got to the Super Bowl 3 years ago because of the strength/unity of your offensive line and the depth/pass rush ability of your D-Line. It's no coincidence that while you've been struggling, David Diehl has looked old, McKenzie looks like a total scrub, and Snee and O'Hara have been banged up.
It's no coincidence that your "stud" DEs are all hurt and your line struggles to stop the run in front of a mediocre LB corps.
GTFO w/ this "We miss Plax" bullshit.

No shit Plaxico had little impact on the 2009 season. Smith/Manningham/Nix came in and actually played awesome (except for the drops from Mario when he wasnt making great plays).
The core of the Giants are the two lines. The OL is older and the DL was ravaged by injuries in recent years. After Osi suffered his leg injury a few years back, he's NEVER been the same. Tuck can be awesome, but it seems as though he always has a nagging injury. Kiwanuka took a while, became a great player this year and is out, possible for the rest of the season. Last year, our DTs were shitty and our secondary was worse than shitty.
The fact that our best LB is Michael Boley doesn't help anything anyway.
But Plaxico's shooting did begin the nosedive that the Giants have been on. FACT!

Interesting from Ralph V.
1. Kiwanuka hopes to be back next week pending doctor talks
2. Update on Hedgecock
3. Defensive pep talk from NYG legends (although it's probably not a good sign when the team needs former players to inspire them....no leadership in the locker room?)
Kiwanuka hopes to be back this week »
By Ralph Vacchiano
When the Giants learned that Mathias Kiwanuka had the same bulging disc in his neck that cost Antonio Pierce half a season last year, they were privately bracing for the worst.
It turns out, though, they may have reason to hope for the best.
Remarkably, Kiwanuka said late last night that he’s hopeful he can be back in the Giants lineup as soon Sunday. Speaking outside the locker room right after the Giants’ 17-3 win over the Bears, Kiwanuka said that he will seek a second opinion from neck specialists today and has what he calls “a legitimate hope” to join the team on their flight to Houston on Saturday.
“We’ll see the doctors and go from there,” he said. “I am hopeful.”
Kiwanuka was ruled out of last night’s game after a CAT scan late Friday revealed the extent of the bulging disc in his neck. It was eerily similar to the sudden way the Giants found out last year that Pierce had the same injury - - an injury that essentially ended up ending Pierce’s career.
Kiwanuka said he has spoken to Pierce since and said “There is a subtle difference” between the two injuries. “They aren’t exactly the same,” he said.
The Giants have not put a timetable on Kiwanuka’s return. They say it depends on how quickly the disc responds to treatment and rest. Kiwanuka obviously believes his neck will respond well.

Hedgecock injures hamstring
The news doesn’t appear to be as good for FB Madison Hedgecock, who left the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. He was limping very badly in the locker room after the game and didn’t respond when reporters asked him how he was doing.

Inspiration from the ghosts of Giants past
You’ll read a lot more about this later today, but the Giants credit their overwhelming, 10-sack defensive performance to a couple of pep talks from a couple of Giants legends. Michael Strahan was at the practice facility on Thursday and spoke to the defense before popping into various position group meetings to say a few words.
Then, on Saturday night, Jessie Armstead - - a special assistant with the team - - addressed the entire team at their hotel. That speech apparently really struck a chord with the players.
“He just challenged us, basically,” said Justin Tuck. “When a guy like Jessie Armstead tells you that you need to play better. … it was inspirational.”

Great game from the defense, I hope we can be consistent in that area going forward....Cutler gave us some of those sacks though, he held the ball FOREVER
Offense still was sputtering, but the Bears defense gets some credit for the struggles
