Prince reminds me of Jamar Fletcher...*shudders*...for the Giants sake I hope he pans out better.

                From Yahoo!:

Pro Football Weekly draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki: With Barry Cofield likely to command too much interest on the free-agent market, the Giants found an explosive penetrator who could replace him. Austin possesses first-round athletic traits and explosive inside-rush ability. He didn't play as a senior for violating NCAA regulations and has marginal football character. However, Tom Coughlin does an excellent job getting the most out of his players, and if he can keep Austin in line the Giants could come away with a very disruptive interior force well-suited for Perry Fewell's defense.

Despite the fact that they have not gone OL yet, I like the draft so far. Have to figure if they were overly worried about the line, they would have addressed it by now (guaranteed they get someone tomorrow.

3rd round pick was the wideout Jerrel Jernigan from Troy. Story on him is, he's short (5'9) but he's a playmaker. Fast as hell, he has played a variety of positions and roles in offenses in high school and college. He has experience as a wild cat QB (although I doubt the Giants begin using such formations), a H.S. QB, a running back, a slot receiver, a return man and elsewhere on special teams.

With Steve Smith's status anything but certain coming back from injury, he'll try to earn the slot receiver role IMO at some point in his rookie year.

His 4.46 40 is nice....he should be our kick/punt return specialist right away.

If you want to be pessimistic....Santana Moss. I'm being optimistic.

                  ------------------------

                  Marvin Austin

The Giants scout people all said Austin has the tools to be a force, he has a mean streak and can get into the backfield. They believe he's not a bad guy, just that he's made mistakes and he's ready to prove his worth.

No doubt if Austin didn't have a run in with the NCAA, he's almost definitely a 1st round pick..potential top half of the round, too.

                  -----

So their first three picks...they have stabilized the secondary (to a degree, they could also pick up a safety), their defensive line and the return game/receiving corps.

Their remaining picks include a 4th, three 6th round picks and a 7th rounder.

Imagine OL, LB, RB, TE, FB, S could all be spots they look to.

Gianfranco DeGrezia We got Prince which is great value. The teams that dominated us last year are the ones with 2-3 WRs weapons. Look at the Packers and such. Falcons added Julio Jones, and they are going to be competitive again. Then in the 2nd round we got a steal in Austin. Austin would have been a top 15 pick if it weren't for him getting suspended. Cofield is good as gone. Then in the 3rd we got Jernigan. Who is a great kick return specialiest. Which we have been lacking for awhile.

6th rounder - SS Tyler Sash, Iowa
-Good size, motor, best in run support. Good tackler. Not very fast. Had 13 picks in three years at Iowa. He is coming off shoulder surgery and only had 11 reps at the combine weight lifting test.

200+ career tackles in college, 100+ assisted tackles…

Giants needed to pick up a safety this off-season with Chad Jones unfortunate serious injury last year and even if Deon Grant returns for a year, the only depth behind he, Rolle and KP is Michael Johnson (eww).

                          ---------------------

7th rounder: RB Da'Rel Scott, Maryland

Ran a 4.34 40 (led all RBs), he's 5'11, 210……runs low to the ground, quick acceleration, doesn't go down easily, runs inside well….fumbling issues, injury issues (ankle 2007, shoulder 2008, forearm 2009), not a good short yardage back.

                          48 career receptions, 500+ receiving yards, 4 TDs…..in 430 rushes, 2401 (5.6 avg), 17 TDs in 4 years……best year was 2008, 1133 yards rushing, 5.4 average, 8 TDs

                          ------------

6th rounder: LB Greg Jones, Michigan State

Personally, surprised he fell to the 6th round…was a leader on defense in college, had a ton of production (over 450 tackles, 16 sacks in four years). Has experience playing inside or outside, good blitzer/pass rusher, has never missed a game due to injury, potential to cover TEs.

Negative, he is not good in man coverage, not the most disciplined in terms of good angles, maintaining gap responsibilities, barely 6-foot.

Get a load of his stats….

                          2007- 78 total tackles, 8 for loss, 4 sacks, 1 FF
                          2008- 127 total tackles, 14 for loss, 2 sacks
                          2009- 154 total tackles, 14 for loss, 9 sacks, 1 FF
                          2010- 106 total tackles, 10 for loss, 1 sack, 3 FF, 2 INT

Haven't looked up LB Jacquian Williams (another 6th round pick), but the info above was taken from a couple places

                          Really like Greg Jones.
