If it was just that, killing dogs, Vick probably wouldn't have done much time if at all. It's the whole interstate gambling thing that made it an auto federal offense. People need to stop with the dogs = humans debate because that's not what we are debating. Shit, Vick's former teammate, Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux murdered his girlfriend's dog in cold blood and didn't miss a game.

We're comparing vehicular homicide to federal interstate conspiracy. Two totally different types of crimes.

Vick ran a criminal enterprise. The killing of dogs makes the dog lovers and PETA angry but I'm sure the NFL and the feds could give two shits about that, it's the interstate gambling that did him in.

I'm a huge Vick fan and supporter and even I can see the difference. Why is this still being discussed however 2 years later? Haven't we all gotten past this?

Ok so get past the dogs vs humans debate.

Its fucked up that illegal gambling and lying is a more serious offense than killing another person.

Not really. Think of the Enron debacle. Lay & Skilling ruined the lives of thousands of people whom they employed, yet they didn't kill anyone. IMO what they did is worse than what Donte Stallworth did. I think what happened to Stallworth 'could' have happened to a lot of people...it was an accident. What Lay & Skilling did was premeditated greed.

I hope all these short sighted people never end up on a Jury!!!!

You really need to look at ALL the facts in a case before coming to some kind of judgment. The idea that dogs > humans is ridiculous.

The court system MUST look at ALL the facts, such as:

The man was illegally JAYWALKING onto a busy HIGHWAY. Along with the state (intoxicated) that Donte was in while driving. It then has to determine how much influence each fact had on the accident/death.

Sadly, the man had a lot to do with his own death.

The government cared because what Vick was doing was ILLEGAL.

How is that comparable to having "an illegal gambling rig" tho?

I agree with the post you quoted.. if we cant compare dog killing to human killing.. I think its even worse to compare gambling to human killing.

not to mention, there is actual video of the incident which speaks volumes to what really happened and its intent.

I was just giving an example where a seemingly 'minor' crime, such as embezzlement, could actually be more serious than killing a person from a certain point of view.

Play money is legal. There is a reason when they advertise Poker sites they advertise .nets because it doesnt involve real money. The government actually just put a huge freeze on millions of dollars in poker winnings just a few months ago. Anything they cant cash a profit from in taxes definitely aint gonna be legal, lol. All money poker sites are based off-shore.
