Buehler Beats DeAngelo Smith In A Race

OK, to bo fair, the 50-yard duel came after practice. DeAngelo Smith had been running for the better part of two hours, and fellow rookie David Buehler had been mostly on the sideline, chilling.
Still. We're talking about a kicker against a defensive back. And Buehler didn't just beat him - he smoked him. Had him by at least three yards, holding out him arms the last few strides because he knew he had beaten him.
"There was a lot of trash-talking in the locker room," Buehler said. "DeAngelo's pretty confident in his speed. I knew I was fast, so I decided to challenge him.
"I just got in the locker room today and I felt like racing somebody. All these guys talk about how fast they are, and I just wanted to compete."
Buehler on Tuesday showed a little bit of why the Cowboys drafted him in the fifth round, uncanny athleticism for a kicker. He ran a 4.62 in the 40-yard dash back in April, and had 25 reps on the 225-pound bench press.
As he crossed the finish line Buehler threw off his jersey and circled around the end zone for a half victory lap, his teammates either raising their eyebrows mesmorized, or doubling over in laughter.
Smith couldn't help but smile as he tried to walk off the field, knowing he had to face the music from a herd of media, equally surprised by what they had seen.
"I was talking trash," Smith said. "He beat me fair and square . . . He had fresh legs and everything, but there's no excuse, I should be winning anyway. We're going to race again, though."
Smith had better hope he wins the rematch.
