LOL @ turning this into Peyton Vs. Florida.

I doubt Peyton Manning gives two shits right about now about not beating Florida.

When you have an NFL career like his, your college career becomes your high school career. You don't really think about it all that much.

Stats are amazing, but I find it hard to put him as the greatest of all time when looking at only one ring in comparison to multiple rings and stats by some other prolific QBs.

I'd be hard pressed to say I'd want Manning as my QB in the Super Bowl over a guy like Montana.

I'm a big Peyton Manning fan but no, he's not the GOAT. At least not yet. Fair or not, greatness at the QB position is largely defined by what you do in the post season, where Peyton's been a much lesser qb.

Yes, he won a SB MVP but he's still under .500 in the playoffs and aside from possibly the AFC Champ. game that year, hasn't really led his team to victory from the depths of despair when the stakes are high. I'm a Peyton > Brady guy but in Brady's favor are not only the fact that he's won 3 SBs but had to engineer game winning drives late in the 4th qtr in two of them. Montana also led 2 comebacks in the SB and in his 4 SBs threw 11 TDs and ZERO picks. Elway has "The Drive" and "The Drive II", led 3 not-so-great Broncos teams to SB appearances & made a key play late in one of his SB wins.

As far as his command of the offense, its impeccable at a time when offenses & defenses are more complicated than they've ever been. I'll give him the nod there but let's remember, most qbs called there own plays up until roughly 25 or 30 years ago. What does that say for a guy like Otto Graham who was at the helm for 7 championships in a 10 year career?

Manning is an awesome talent & I absolutely love watching him but when I think someone is the GOAT, its because I stacked him up against other greats and found that he's done enough to separate himself from that elite pack. He's definitely in the conversation but I can't hand him the crown, just yet.

Speaking as a Colts fan .... he made up for his "inability to beat florida" by winning the superbowl in Florida .

Doesn't have enough playoff heroics to be the GOAT in my opinion.
Need a few more Super Bowls from him.
              Playoffs count IMO.

                Yup. Next wednesday. lol.

Johnny U won back-to-back NFL Championships. . . and while he didn't win a Super Bowl until 1970, he is widely regarded as the inventor of the modern passing game. He drew-up some of his own plays, besides calling all of them. According to my granddad, he created the flea-flicker and/or double-reverse pass writing in the mud in a game.

Even though he wasn't at all fast, he proved that he'd do what he had to (scramble) to make plays. Seeing Peyton do that last year was inspiring me, because he proved that he was a team player and wouldn't just throw the ball away in the interest of not getting sacked, but rather try and make something happen.

Tebow or no Tebow, Florida is Peyton's kryptonite. I'm sorry that the one person on here that I have gone back and forth against in my short time is the only one to take up for me,

That being said, how many of you have actually ever met the man you idolize? I wouldn't say a bad word about the man on a personal level. He is a good person off the field and agreeably the G.O.A.T.

If you ever meet him, ask him. I bet you anything it KILLS him that Tee Martin won his National Championship and he couldn't ever beat Wuerrful...or take his Heisman.

This shit means a lot to those guys. Just ask any of the Miami douches who say "The U" when they do their little intros at the beginning of the game. It matters.

Peyton has his ring. If he didn't, this thread wouldn't exist, and if he gets another one, I think it would be pretty hard to form a cohesive argument against him being the greatest ever.

In comparison to guys with more rings, I will frame the argument in this manner...if you put Manning on Montana's 49ers, running that QB friendly true Bill Walsh WCO with all of those quick drops and easy slants, I have no doubt those teams are just as successful, if not more successful.

I'm not sure Montana gets the job done with the Colts.

Its hard to call him "The Greatest" QB ever. I do think that he is the best QB talent wise to ever play the game, but Greatness entails much more than just having impeccable talent. I make the same Kobe, although i think he is the best basketball player talent wise to play, he just has yet to reach a certain level of "Greatness", give Peyton a few years then come back with this i might be inclined to agree.

Over the hill and without much talent he did a fine job in K.C...with No Rice ,no Taylor , no RB to speak of.....he won a SB in 81.

Montana would do fine with Harrison and Edg James and a wideopen offense with no fear of getting hit , no elite defenses to face , and WRs running against impotent corners and soft cover 2 all day.
Best reason to have a license.

Montana had Marcus Allen in KC, along with a very good pass catcher in Kimble Anders, and his WR's were guys like Willie Davis, JJ Birden, and Lake Dawson IIRC. So yeah, no Jerry Rice of Roger Craig, but that's neither here nor there.

I don't want to be put in a position to rip Montana, because he's #2 in my book. I just see Peyton throwing over 70% and putting up stupid numbers in that system with Jerry Rice, and having the benefit of those solid defenses SF always had.
