i think someone said it before, but if you put manning on a team with the defense montana had he would have 4 or 5 rings himself. manning has never had a supporting cast on d. the only reason they beat the bears is because rex grossman was their qb.

edit: it was warner2bruce that brought up the 9ers comparison http://64.214.191.194/~vsn/forum/sho...&postcount=564

Manning's performance last night really dropped him down a notch or two in my mind. That pick he threw was just awful. Joe Montana would have never thrown that pass. Not to mention, Manning's playoff record and stats are not that great, either.

He will finish his career as the best regular season QB of all time, but when it comes to the playoffs, he can't hold a candle to Joe.
Just like Joe can't hold a candle to Peyton's regular season resume.

Agreed outside of the Rex thing.

The reason they beat the Bears is because they ran down their throats. Dominick Rhodes had 100 yards and Addai had something like 77.

They destroyed the middle of the Bears defense all night long.

rex's two fumbles from under center and an int didnt help either...

Oh I agree, but I think the fact that the Colts ran at will over the Bears defense was really the deciding factor.

Rex also completed 20 of 28 passes and threw for a touchdown of his own. Of course he fumbled and threw a big pick, but he wasn't the reason they lost.

            That's just my opinion though.

Ron Tuner going away from the run and Peyton Mannign being able to throw checkdowns all night also didn't help.

Grossman wasn't the biggest reason the Bears lost but he was obviously a factor.

I have trouble ranking players I've seen with players I've never seen.

                Especially at the QB position.

Yeah, of course he was the factor, but people made it seem like the rest of the team busted their ass all game and played perfect and Rex the Scapegoat single handedly cost them the game.

The Colts destroyed the Cover-2. Urlacher got blown up all game. The defensive line generated no pressure. Benson's fake/minor injury took away their 2-man running attack and yeah.. Turner abandoned the run that was working pretty well in the first half.

But wait, it's easier just to throw things at Grossman.

                      That's retarded.

                      Mark Rypien > Dan Marino

                      Trent Dilfer > Jim Kelly

                      Right?

No, valuing the regular season over the post-season is retarded.

In evaluating individual players (who account for a part of 1/3 phases of the game) it's retarded.

You want to do that for teams? Feel free. But saying Player A is better than Player B because his team won X amount of Super Bowls is retarded. It doesn't factor the other 2 phases of the game in which Player A or Player B has ZERO control.

That's cool - can't go wrong with either one.

Interesting discussion on WFAN with Carl Banks about Peyton. His point is despite Manning's greatness, Tom Brady performs better under pressure(3-1 in Super Bowls). Agree or disagree?

Yet, it wouldn't make a difference without this guy:

                              Let's have a little fun.

                              Career postseason numbers

                              Player A: 62% completion, 28 TD, 15 INT, 85.5 QB rating

                              Player B: 62.9% completion, 28 TD, 19 INT, 87.6 QB rating

Which one is Peyton and which one is Brady? Which one is Mr. Postseason, Mr. Clutch and which one is choker supreme postseason failure Peyton Manning?

Brady has also had a better team...and a better kicker....
