Unfortunately, this isn't pick up football and those three will not win us very much. Kevin Smith isn't even that good anyways, he's a solid back but nothing special. This team needs something resembling an offensive line and a defense before they'll ever even sniff another team sniffing the playoffs.
CJ's a beast, and stafford will be a good QB. You guys have a good saftey too. We have nothing, except Briggs, Cutler, Hester and Forte. Maybe Knox.
The Bears haven't signed anyone of note in free agency.
Muhammad in 2005 on the opening day. Pace/Omiyale this year. People considered Marinelli a "free agent". They spent most of the 2006 and 2007 season reupping guys like Briggs, Tillman, Vasher, etc. They've spent money both inside and outside their organization for players. Also I find it hilarious that the Bears are considered "cheap" when they trade away 1st round draft picks for a young QB then go onto give him a large extension 4 weeks into the season. You can argue if the money was spent wisely or in the right areas but to call the Bears cheap is laughable seeing as they have one of the higher payrolls in football.
It's really, really funny reading threads like this. This is what happens when you set your expectations too high, you guys have no receivers and no offensive line. Seriously what did you expect?

You are telling me that Pace/Omiyale is your example of a big free agent signing? We also signed Josh Bullocks and boy that was huge!

LOL @ Pace. Who is old as fuck.
LOL @ signing Omiyale as a Guard, who has never played Guard in his life.

The no WR thing most knew heading into the season but our Oline had a very solid/good season last year and many felt it had been improved in the offseason. The downright pitiful play of our Oline this is out of nowhere to be honest.
Ya, what hurts the most is that its every phase on the field! There is not one thing that the bears do decently. Special Teams and Dave Toeb (sp?) are the best we have, but even today Knox had that dumbass fumble.

I'll maybe give you Moose.
Pace/Omiyale on top of going out and getting Jay Cutler then signing him to an extension plus a premier assistant coach is a pretty damn good free agency period...or at least it was supposed to be. The Bears graded out very highly in that category by most any objective observer. Yeah, the signings have fallen on their face but that doesn't make the Bears "cheap". They spent the money...it just has not been put to use. It's two separate arguments.
Being cheap =/= to signing players who end up sucking.
PS as of 2008 the Bears were 10th in the NFL in payroll. That was before the Omiyale, Pace, and Cutler deals/extensions.

Yeah and Pace being old didn't stop people from being excited about him. Nobody expected him to fall off this hard. Your own thread and it's anger betrays the fact that you felt Pace would be good, but he hasn't been and has failed to live up to expectations just like the rest of the team.
Yes, moving Omiyale to guard was a retarded move. But that doesn't make the Bears cheap. It's more of an indictment on their personnel/scouting department.

I didnt expect Pace to be great. I thought he would fit in well, help out the younger Oline, and just be solid.
The Guy cant block a Highschooler. He has been as bad as you can be.

So they aren't cheap they just sign players nobody else wants is that it?
and I'm not talking about payroll. I'm talking about signing a big free agent. Not an offensive lineman who had one career start because of injury or a 10 year vet who was cut because he has bad knees.
