    Peppers to Chicago?

Report: Bears looking to pick up Peppers
Posted by Mike Florio on February 23, 2010 8:37 PM ET
J.Peppers.jpgWith Bears coach Lovie Smith and, to a lesser extent, G.M. Jerry Angelo facing a win-or-else season, the team is poised to make a splash in free agency.

Specifically, the Bears' top target is Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com.

Technically, the Bears aren't allowed to comment to anyone, publicly or privately, about their interest in Peppers or any other player whose contract has yet to expire. And if the league actually cared about tampering (other than when the 49ers do it), the league employee who has broken the news might have an awkward moment or two in the biggest office at 280 Park Avenue.

La Canfora also reports that Packers defensive end Aaron Kampman is "very much on [the Bears'] radar."

Chicago needs to bolster the defensive end position due to the tragic passing of Gaines Adams, for whom the Bears gave up their 2010 second-round pick in October. The Bears also are without a first-round pick, due to the 2009 trade for quarterback Jay Cutler.

We continue to believe that anyone who signs Peppers is taking a huge risk. With every reason in 2009 to have a huge year, he simply didn't. Once he gets paid, realistic expectations should be even lower.

Then again, if Peppers ends up in the NFC North, Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie will have two games per year in which he'll need to be ready to claim after the fact that he was injured.
perhaps speculation, I've heard Eagles as another interested team... Peppers and Cole would be ridiculous.

Peppers and Cole would be redic

the NFC East has amazing pass rushers now that i look at it, all 4 of the teams should be high up in the sack numbers this year.

Not good news for Aaron, Matt and Brett/Sage/Tarvaris.

Seriously, with a competent OC, a game plan that suits Cutler, a slightly improved O-Line and Peppers, Chicago could be very dangerous. They still need help in the Secondary though.

Doubtful. The Bears said publicly they aren't going to go nuts this year in free agency.

I can hope but I doubt it happens.

I'd be happy with Kampman though.

Unless they are throwing away the towel now for next year....they have to IMO. The 2ndary isn't strong, so they need a good line. With no 1st round picks, they can't get any of the restricted FA available. I would love to see Peppers in a Chicago Bears uniform.

Paul Allen is a rich bastard, no cap anymore so why dont the Seahawks get him since we are already looking at ends for the draft.
