Sentreal Henderson released from LoI to USC

USC releases top recruit Henderson from letter of intent

    July 6, 2010
    CBSSports.com wire reports
LOS ANGELES -- Southern California released top recruit Seantrel Henderson from his national letter of intent Tuesday, the latest blow to a school reeling from an NCAA scandal.

Henderson, a 330-pound offensive tackle from St. Paul, Minn., was one of the coveted members of coach Lane Kiffin's first recruiting class.

Kiffin made the announcement Tuesday and said the move came with "zero penalties and no restrictions."

"Seantrel has been great through the whole process and we wish him the best of luck with his decision," Kiffin said.

The NCAA recently banned USC from bowl games for two years and imposed severe scholarship restrictions following an investigation surrounding Heisman Trophy-winning tailback Reggie Bush dating to the Trojans' 2004 national championship.

USC was penalized for a lack of institutional control in the ruling by the NCAA following its four-year investigation. The coach who presided over the alleged misdeeds -- Pete Carroll -- is now with the Seattle Seahawks.

The penalties include the loss of 30 football scholarships over three years and vacating 14 victories in which Bush played from December 2004 through the 2005 season. USC has appealed, arguing the sanctions are too severe and "inconsistent with precedent."

Henderson had made a televised announcement saying he picked USC over Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame and Florida, but he did not formally commit as the possibility of NCAA sanctions loomed over the Trojans.

Defensive end Malik Jackson also announced he will transfer to Tennessee. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound junior from Los Angeles has two years of eligibility left. He appeared in 13 games last season and had 18 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

NCAA rules allow juniors and seniors to transfer without sitting out a season following the sanctions.
Fuuuuuck ya, come to Ohio State, Sentreal, like you should have in the first place.

He's bound for Miami. POS gave USC his commitment on national TV and he tried as hard as he could to stay away from LA. Lane should've made him suffer by losing 1 year of eligibility when he transferred but now he can play this season

I think he has to sit out. Only Juniors and Seniors can transfer without penalty because of the bowl ban. He'll have to sit out a year, but he can just be redshirted and not lose a year of eligibility. Unless he transfers to a FCS or D2 school, of course.

Nevermind. Because he never enrolled, I think he is free to go wherever. If he enrolled, then what I said would be correct. But alas, it is not.

USC released him from his LOI before he enrolled... he can go where ever he wants and play this fall... it will just take some shady ass maneuvering to get him into the U...

No, he shouldn't. Lane assured him the NCAA wouldn't come down hard on USC & they did. W/USC's probation, Lane's shadowy rep, could USC afford to put up a red flag for every blue chip in the country that the current Trojan regime would say anything just to get a commitment? Kiff had no choice but to let him go.

                        We are ND.

USC will be hurting. They have been recruiting like shit on the OL for years.

He's not coming to Columbus... Tressel wants no part of Henderson after dealing with him and his family beforehand, especially not now.

September 11th he'll be trying to block Cam Heyward in the 'Shoe... looking forward to that, provided Miami can manuever a schollie for him.

I'm all in on this kid going prep and ending up at Ohio State in February.

If we can somehow weasel him around admissions and the clearinghouse (the real hurdle in all of this) we have a scholarship available to him (no, we wouldn't be cheating, we are at an exact 85 and we predict one or two guys leaving in the fall that are "unnamed" atm) and he will enroll in Miami for the fall...but no chance that happens, I just won't believe it until I see it.

So, he'll go prep and go to Ohio State in February...my prediction...

As of this moment... Tress does not want any part of the Henderson circus. He doesn't take lightly to being badmouthed or fucked with... by a parent.
