Mike Francesa is a pompous, arrogant, asshole...but he's the best by a mile.

I havent listened to Chris Russo since he moved to Sirius, but when they go out of business I suspect he'll hook back up with Francesa at some point.

Jim Rome is overrated. To gimmicky.

Cowherd is a great listen, but he just says stuff to get reaction most of the time. He "gets" it, but comes off transparent sometimes. One of the best, though.

Mike & Mike are meh. Radio for casuals.

    Tony Bruno is ok.

The local yokals here in College Station are horrendous, especially after listening to Francesa for 20+ years.

Scott Van Pelt is very good.

Everyone on WFAN in NY is shit aside from Francesa. Total shit. Steve Somers & Tony Paige are so bad.

Mostly everyone else, on FOX Sports Radio especially, are really bad and gimmicky. Sports radio in general is loaded with lames.

Jim Rome is hilarious. Only one that is interesting, but Dan Patrick is pretty good as well.

I have the ESPN radio app, so I listen to Mike and Mike, Cowherd and Van Pelt. I really only listen to national radio, because our local radio is horrendous......its really, really bad. The only thing our local ESPN guy does is give out random tickets, talk 60s-80s baseball/basketball and talk about food. Its a horrible show......its so bad that he currently is broadcasting from a hospital bed and has been doing so for about a month.

Mike and Mike are tolerable but my favorite is.....

Steve Czban (Sporting News Radio use to be with Fox until they put that Militant Fuck on there who lasted 6months) Its like XM 94 now since the channel change.

Use to like the Herd but after I heard him say how the Celtics are built to beat the Heat and will beat them, then change is whole story when a caller "called" him on it He said he never said it . So fuck him

I like Scott Van Pelt and I forget the guy from ESPN on during my drive home at 4pm but he played college ball.

            Its terrible!

I like it when they interview guests or talk NBA basketball, but they are clueless about all other topics and they aren't funny at all.

My favorite though is Harry Teinowitz recently getting his job back. Proves how pathetic Chicago sports radio is (as does the fact that the highest rated show is...Mike & Mike!).

During processing, Teinowitz told officers that they “could not do this” because he works for the Disney company and he would lose his job, police said. He then asked twice if he could contact Skokie’s mayor, the report stated.

You can bag on Boers but not Bernstein. Terry Boers is a fucktard. He doesn't have any of his own thoughts, you can tell he never really preps, and he's singlehandedly fucking that show up. My favorite shows are when Boers takes a vacation and Jason Goff fills in. Bernstein and Goff gel together nicely.

Bernstein knows basketball but he doesn't have anyone to talk with. A few weeks ago a high school basketball coach called in and they were discussing the nuances of a motion offense and Bernstein was right there with him while Boers was picking his nose and trying to interject clever quips.

Boers reminds me of Lou Pinella's tenure with the Cubs...its like he's one step away from retirement, but he'll keep taking money until someone tells him to quit.

                    That's a good analogy.

Definitely true and most notable last week when Bernstein was with Goff and Holmes throughout the week. It's just an all around better show without Boers. I use to really like him but it's fairly obvious he's checked out (hell he does the show from his house regularly).

For an industry that started to boom almost 25-30 years ago, sports talk radio sure has a lot of untalented hacks drawing paychecks.

So true. I just don't understand how no new blood can break into the industry. Chicago is arguably the greatest sports town in the nation, and we have people like Dan McNeal who have been fired from every job they had yet they are still on the air. A few years ago, fricking Sean Salisbury had a radio show here in Chicago (it was horrendous, and Salisbury was sent packing after a couple weeks). I think thats why Mike & Mike's numbers are so strong in Chicago...people would rather listen to Joaquin's annoying mash-ups than a Chicago sports radio guy.

The Score has new blood coming in every so often. There's only so many on-air spots to fill is the problem. Matt Spiegel is under 30 but I personally don't like him too much because he is McNeil's parrot, kind of like how Boers is Bernstein's parrot. Goff and Holmes are both under 30 and their both really good.

Bernstein and Goff do a great show.

                                Abbatacola isn't bad.

Lawrence Holmes is terrible. The "Me" show is basically Holmes admitting he doesn't know how to drive content for a show so it ends up being a mangled mess.

I agree you can tell Boers has just given up. I still like Bernstein most of the time. When he does shows with Goff, Goff tends to keep him in checka bit more and will challenge him on some things. Same with Matty.

Mully and Hanley are "meh" at best.

I agree with Senser though, for being such a great sports town the sports talk in Chicago is awful. For God sakes, Mike North and Mike Murphy used to occupy the first 8 hours of the day.
