David Garrard was the starting QB for the Jaguars for 5 years and made the playoffs once.

Wherever the Jaguars are going this year, playoffs, no playoffs, 8 wins, 5 wins, 10 wins, 2 wins....none of that was changing with Garrard.

Again, knowledgeable Jaguar fans on this site who watch every single game don't give a single fuck that the guy is gone. Only goofball fans who look at goofball stats and think the guy is anything but the very definition of mediocre at his absolute best.

David Garrard had to go up against Peyton Manning year in and year out. This was a year that the Jaguars could actually compete for a division title, then they cut the best QB(no matter how mediocre) on the roster. This entire thing just rubs me the wrong way and feels like they gave up before the season even started.

I'm not silly enough to say Garrard was the future, obviously he's not going to be your franchise QB. However he's better suited starting for the Jags over McCown early in the season, buying Gabbert some more time to learn NFL schemes and get accustomed to the Jaguars offense. Best case, they compete and win a division title. Worst case, they buy some more time for Gabbert instead of throwing him in after two weeks.

Here's the thing - he wasn't the best QB on the roster, because he got beat out by McCown in an open competition.

Think about that. HE GOT BEAT OUT BY MCCOWN.

Just the idea he was in a position battle with McCown should tell you where Garrard stands.

So you don't think it was strictly a money decision? From everything that I understood, it was just that.

If you honestly believe 4 pre-season games puts McCown on Garrard's level I dont know what to tell you. I dont know whats happening in practice, if Garrard mailed it in as Larry said, what.. I dont even blame the Jags for making the move. But hes by no way shape or form worse then McCown, shouldnt even be spoken in the same breath. Garrdard gave many average years to the Jags, a playoff spot, and really wasnt that bad as a game manager with pretty bad receivers for years. McCown is lucky to be a #2 on any team in the league. Garrard will probably never be a starter again, and thats fine, in this league teams are usually looking for a stud or a young guy to groom, Garrard is neither, but he deserves more credit then he receives for the time he put in and for what he is, and thats not inferior to fucking Luke McCown.

They wouldnt have waited until a few days before the season started if it was strictly a money decision.

Del Rio was saying all along it was open comp. Even if Garrard was better, it wasn't much better, or he'd still be on the team. This whole thing is so overblown.

Noone is saying Garrard is an all-world QB.. but the insinuation that McCown is on his level is just asinine.. I understand what the Jags were doing, they thought McCown would be a better stop gap then this, hes proven to be absolutely atrocious, now they have to rush their plan with Gabbert. To think they wouldnt be better off with Garrard playing out this year and Gabbert getting a year to sit is preposterous.. the kid is not ready to go into the fire, and like Larry said earlier, this can ruin guys. We'll see how it works out.. but I dont think the plan was for Gabbert to be playing by week 3.
I feel no desire to get into an argument...dude didn't even look at fumble numbers.

His half assed retort deserved its own.

Anyone arguing FOR GARRARD is an idiot...I feel no remorse for saying that.

And Kuzzy has a tiny dick.

You play too much Madden, Fantasy Football, or both.

Last I checked, no one has picked up Garrard yet...that tells me all I need to know about his value around the league. Even the lowly fuckin Colts, who need a QB, haven't touched Garrard. The Eagles, who need someone to back up Mike Vick, because he's sure to only play 10 games, haven't touched him. Seahawks? Chiefs?

You haven't frequented enough of these Garrard threads.

The excuse for this, is Garrard wants a starting job, and on top of that, refuses to be a placeholder or temp fill in.

Is it really hard to believe that Garrard hasnt signed on somewhere because he wants to start? That seems pretty logical to me. Many teams would welcome him as a back-up, no questioning that.

                            lol

                            Yeah, ok.

Dude got the shaft from the Jaguars, cutting him right before Week 1, so his salary isn't guaranteed, and basically, he's jobless right now...and, now, going on Week 3 of the NFL season (where his contract would NOT be guaranteed) not a single peep from anyone's camp about any kind of INTEREST in Garrard (last I heard, the Ravens wanted him to sign as a backup after Week 1, but that was right after he was cut).

                            Please.

It would not shock me if Garrard never was a full-time starter in the league again. He's a backup at this point. And, he should fire his agent for letting him potentially hold out for the season because he wants to be a starter...

Kinda late for garrard to catch on now when he'd have to learn another teams offense. Way to screw him up jags!

You guys are escaping the whole purpose of the thread. This is Gabbert's time to shine, not Gerrard's farewell party.

Sunshine is going to come in and show potential, show his golden arm (and golden lochs), and then he is gonna fucking choke against a depleted Iowa team, throw multiple picks against a clueless Kansas team, overthrow everyone at Texas Tech, and almost give a game away against a rising WAC school.

Luckily in the NFL, height and arm strength are all you need.
