Redskins CB Carlos Rogers says he is not worried that the team has failed to extend his contract.

Rogers, due $1.403 million in the last year of his rookie deal, was the topic of trade rumors earlier this offseason, but is locked in at right corner now that Shawn Springs is gone. Rogers has attended all voluntary workouts.

Redskins special teamer James Thrash is considering retirement.

Thrash has a serious neck injury. He can have surgery now and try to play one more year, perhaps risking future quality of life, or hang 'em up at age 34.

Coordinator Sherman Smith says the Redskins' players appear much more comfortable with a year under their belt in his and Jim Zorn's West Coast offense, "the quarterback in particular."

"They're moving faster, not thinking as much. The quarterback...his game is taking off," Smith said. Fantasy heads may be down on Jason Campbell after the Skins tried to trade him this winter, but he can still be a good value QB2.

Redskins offensive coordinator Sherman Smith says Ladell Betts has been "standing out" during Organized Team Activities.

"He's stepped his game up. He's jumped out," Smith said. "He's a very good player." Betts was used sparingly in Smith and coach Jim Zorn's first year, but his workload could rise after Clinton Portis broke down late last season

Redskins FB Mike Sellers has reported to voluntary OTAs.

The Pro Bowler sat out early conditioning work because he wanted a new contract. He probably still does, but isn't planning to make a big fuss about it.

Redskins FS LaRon Landry has not been attending voluntary workouts or answered calls from the team.

Landry was late to workouts last year as well, but he showed up in early June. Coach Jim Zorn said Landry's absence is "disappointing," but is confident he'll "be ready in training camp and go hard and have a great year."

Albert Haynesworth's hearing in Tennessee on two misdemeanor traffic violations was continued to July 21 on Monday.

Haynesworth is on the hook for reckless driving and driving with an expired registration. He is not in any danger of discipline from the league

According to the Washington Examiner, the Redskins "briefly" considered making a move for suspended QB Michael Vick but decided to pass.

Skins brass came to a "quick and unanimous" decision that Vick didn't fit what they do. That's smart, because Vick has struggled badly in West Coast offenses and Jim Zorn runs the scheme in D.C. Playing in our nation's capital also would've made Vick an easy target for picketing and demonstrations.

Chris Horton and Reed Doughty are officially competing for the Redskins' starting strong safety job.

Doughty is fully recovered from the back injury that ended his season in October last year. Horton, better in run support, could see more early down work with Doughty coming in for nickel packages.

Redskins FS LaRon Landry finally reported to voluntary OTAs on Thursday.

We imagine it would've been nice for Landry to have arrived earlier, but it's really no big deal. Washington has continuity on defense and Landry is already established as an elite player. He's geared up for another big year

Redskins signed seventh-round pick Eddie Williams to a multi-year contract.

Williams (6'1/239) caught 54 passes for 687 yards and six TDs as a senior tight end at Idaho. He has the look of an H-back and will try to make the Skins at fullback behind Mike Sellers. Williams isn't much of a tailback option.

Redskins FS LaRon Landry put to rest any rumors that he wants to be traded and said he's been absent because of "personal issues."

"I was doing a couple personal things," said Landry. "And through the missed [practices], all that, I still stayed in shape ... and as far as my physical ability and endurance it's all there."

Redskins signed fifth-round LB Cody Glenn to a multi-year contract.

A converted running back at Nebraska, Glenn has a safety build but received high marks for athleticism and toughness. He's expected to contribute at weak-side linebacker and play special teams for the Redskins.

Redskins released/failed physical WR James Thrash.

Thrash is dealing with a career-threatening neck injury. No longer a threat as a receiver -- and saying he once was would be rather generous -- the 34-year-old special teamer is considering retirement. The Redskins will offer him the opportunity to stay in the organization in another capacity.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn has announced that Chris Horton is his team's starter at strong safety.

The Washington Post reported earlier in the week that the job was up for grabs, but "it's not the battle that right tackle will be," said Zorn. Reed Doughty admitted that the job is Horton's and that he's concentrating on specia
