Redskins coach Jim Zorn said he will consider using Devin Thomas as part of the punt return rotation.

This seems like a lot to put on Thomas' plate. He's already an every-down receiver and the Redskins' primary kick returner. Look for Antwaan Randle El to remain the primary punt returner even though he has struggled mightily. Santana Moss and DeAngelo Hall are also options.

Jason Campbell suffered a minor injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder during Sunday's win over the Raiders.

The red hot Campbell will be fine to start Sunday's game against the Giants. Since the Week 8 bye, Campbell has thrown nine touchdowns in six games and ran for one more. He's making a case to remain the Redskins' quarterback going forward, but it may be too little, too late. He has a great matchup with the Giants miserable secondary next week.

Redskins SLB Brian Orakpo racked up six tackles (five solo), an incredible four sacks, and a forced fumble in Sunday's win over Oakland.

The effort vaults him into the mix for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors along with Texans SLB Brian Cushing, Bills S Jairus Byrd, and longer shots Clay Matthews, James Laurinaitis, and Terrance Knighton. Orakpo leads the Redskins with 11 sacks and has been a dynamic pass rusher off the edge

The Washington Redskins have hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen, shortly after executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato resigned, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Redskins hired Keenan McCardell as wide receivers coach.

Interestingly, McCardell beat out former Bucs WRs coach Richard Mann, who left Tampa to try to catch on with the Redskins. With McCardell out of the picture, Ike Hilliard is the favorite for the same position with the Bucs.

The Bucs and Antonio Bryant "aren't really engaging in talks of any kind," according to beat writer Stephen Holder.

The Bucs seem intent on letting Bryant hit free agency to set his own market before they decide whether to make a play for him. They won't be franchising him for a second straight season at roughly $10 million, and Bryant hasn't been stable enough to merit a big-money long-term deal. Expect Redskins GM Bruce Allen to show interest once Bryant hits the open market.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz, Albert Haynesworth's long-time coordinator with the Titans, believes the potential nose tackle will have no problem switching to a 3-4 defense under Jim Haslett.

"You can play him at end, or you can play him nose. He can do whatever he wants," said Schwartz. "He's that talented of a player." Schwartz admitted that Haynesworth may have an adjustment period, but he insists the $100 million man is talented enough to adapt to whatever version of the 3-4 Haslett wants to run.

Clinton Portis (concussion) has still not been medically cleared for football activities.

Portis said he expects to be fully healthy and back with the Redskins, but neither is a sure thing at this point. It's now been three months since he sustained the concussion. A potential cap casualty this offseason, $6.43M of Portis' 2010 base salary is guaranteed.

Redskins GM Bruce Allen said Thursday that the team is "looking forward to seeing Clinton [Portis] help us win."

Allen noted that Portis has already met with coach Mike Shanahan. Presumably, the meeting went well with Allen implying that Portis will remain with the team. Portis is receiving $6.43M guaranteed this season, so the 'Skins might as well see if he can still play. Of course, he'll have to gain clearance from concussions specialists first.

ESPN NFC East blogger Matt Mosley believes the Redskins will look to draft a running back in April "no matter what" they plan to do with Clinton Portis.

The 'Skins desperately need young legs in the backfield even if they keep Portis. With quarterback and offensive line a priority, the team won't use the No. 4 overall pick on a back. They'll likely take a hard look in the second and third rounds though.

During an interview on the NFL Network, Clinton Portis admitted that he asked for fullback Mike Sellers to be benched during a game early in the season.

Portis continues to throw teammates under the bus. First he called out Jason Campbell and now he's airing dirty laundry with his fullback. Even though Portis is guaranteed $6.43M in 2010, the Skins are better off ridding themselves of his attitude and old legs

New Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is "eager to draft and develop a young quarterback," a league source tells Jason Reid of the Washington Post.

This doesn't mean that Jason Campbell won't be back in 2010, but it does mean that Shanahan doesn't view the restricted free agent as the long-term answer. Most mocks have the Redskins taking Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen with the No. 4 overall pick.

Beat writer Jason Reid says that S LaRon Landry "appeared to regress" last season.

We're not so sure Landry regressed, it's just that he has a lot to live up to as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2007 draft. He was still the leader of a secondary that ranked ninth against the pass while racking up 90 tackles. His IDP upside is limited severely because he doesn't pick off passes or blitz very often.

Coach Mike Shanahan is interviewing Bill Romanowski for the Redskins strength and conditioning coach job.

Hopefully, Shanny is just rewarding a former player with a courtesy interview. It's hard to believe he would actually hire the controversial [former?] user of steroids and HGH, in addition to a wide variety of other supplements
