he got benched but he was announced the starter on Monday press conference.
so - something happened "in the locker room" that they only know about.
i dont think it has anything to do with his performance - he must have got into a fight with Gruden

He's taking the wrong drops on passes, he handed off straight into the FB on a play forgetting they were there, he locks onto his targets, these aren't things a third-season professional should be doing. Not even backup quarterbacks make those mistakes.

I'm all for giving him the rest of the season behind center because it only gets us a better draft position, and not only that, but it really gives RGIII that final chance to prove he can make improvements. I doubt he can, but he does deserve the chance to do so.

By the way, this is a 3-8 team with the following statistics. I know they don't tell the whole story, but you can't tell me this team doesn't have some talent on i. The problem is solely behind center at this point.

Rushing Offense: 112 YPG (15th in NFL)
Passing Offense: 253.2 YPG (9th in NFL)

Rushing Defense: 100.7 YPG (9th in NFL)
Passing Defense: 230.3 YPG (8th in NFL)
Cousins does take less sacks but he also throws a ton of INTs at the worst time..........
take the sack not the turnover.

I thought that it might happen in Week 16 or 17, but not this early. With his performance in the Dallas game and leading the team to victory on the road, McCoy deserved a shot to stake his claim for a roster spot next year with the Redskins.
McCoy already earned a spot for next season over Cousins - Cousins doesnt even dress anymore

Still pretty confident, but a little less now.
anything is possible - i dont anticipate a road win in Indy with Bobby or Colt.
this Redskin team is deflated by now.

they are in tank mode boys - get that high round 1 draft pick. Redskins cant do anything with this season anymore.
why not go for a Top 10 pick

Every time I think this franchise has sunk to a new low, something else happens.

Bottom line is this team can't win until Dan Snyder goes away.

we should go for one those OTs in the draft for 1st round.

          maybe a FS/CB in the 2nd??

or OLine in both 1st and 2nd round??

I guess Griffin is done in Washington. It makes zero sense to bench him for what already is a lost season. McCoy is nothing more then a backup and they already know that. They are either done with him or there is an issue with his teammates.

OT, C, NT, OG in that order. I'd like a safety, but the fact is that the Redskins have ignored the offensive line and the nose tackle position for far too long. It's showing. While Griffin looked terrible, it didn't help that the offensive line was swiss cheese.

i dont think he done - they benched him for the last 3 games last year.
everybody thought he was done then too......
he got this year again, missed 9 games - came back but team has nothing to gain by risking injury again.
let McCoy prove himself like they did with Cousins last year.

get a high draft pick and address the OL with some DBs.

Except after his dismal performance this year, RGIII is the one that needs to prove something. McCoy already proved he can go.

Looks like this really is it for RGIII, I was still sure he would be on the roster and have some competition for the starting job next year. Doesn't seem that way.

However, it is time for celebration, as Gruden did many consider impossible- persuade Daniel Snyder on something.

It’s highly unlikely the struggling quarterback will return next season, people within the organization say. Gruden convinced owner Daniel Snyder and team President and General Manager Bruce Allen, Griffin’s biggest supporters at Redskins Park, that change was necessary. Although Griffin was coming off consecutive inept performances and had not led Washington to a victory in more than a year, don’t underestimate what Gruden accomplished in getting Snyder and Allen on his side.

Snyder and Allen were united in the belief that Griffin could turn back the clock to 2012. They hired Gruden to help make it happen, figuring it wasn’t lack of ability that derailed Griffin last season; it was Mike and Kyle Shanahan. In the past couple of weeks, though, Snyder and Allen began to see the same glaring shortcomings Gruden had noticed since the preseason, team officials say. The tape doesn’t have an agenda.

Griffin’s approach off the field was part of his undoing. Whether or not it was fair, there was a feeling among some at Redskins Park that Griffin should have spent less time in the weight room and more on honing other parts of his game. Then there was all the hoopla that went into fueling Griffin’s RGIII persona.

The Post Sports Live crew debates quarterback Robert Griffin III's future with the Redskins after another disappointing performance in the team's loss to the 49ers. (Post Sports Live/The Washington Post)
In an effort to strengthen his brand, Griffin put too much time into attempting to be universally liked on social media, leaving Gruden to wonder about the young player’s priorities. When a team’s starting quarterback fails to “get it” on more levels than a head coach cares to count, that’s a problem. Factor in that Griffin continued to regress on the field — coaches wondered aloud how Griffin could consistently fail to locate so many open receivers — and Gruden had to take the keys from Griffin or risk losing the locker room.

really dont want to start all over again unless McCoy is really much better than we have seen in the past.

there is a reason why he was 3rd string QB behind Cousins. we just havent seen much of him even when he was in Cleveland.

Most if Griffin's problem is the fact that he has been hurt and not on the field. He needs experience. Benching him in a lost season makes little sense. I could understand it if we were talking about an established quarterback, but at this point Griffin isn't that guy. He needs game experience to work through his struggles.

Right there with you. Just an insanely stupid move. Even if Gruden doesn't want Griffin in DC next season, he still should have played him through out the season, simply to try and increase his trade value.
