Beat writer Jason Reid says it has been "painful to watch" OT Mike Williams in pass protection during training camp.
Williams has been out of football since 2005 and lost over 100 pounds in just a few months time. While Williams adjusts to his new body and relearns footwork, pass rushers are abusing him on a regular basis. He's a long way
Hackett, who knows Jim Zorn's offense from Seattle, will be an option for the No. 5 receiver job after Roydell Williams was waived/injured. Coming off a 13/181/0 season with the Panthers, the injury-plagued Hackett won't have any fantasy value in the Redskins' typically conservative offense.
Redskins offensive line coach Joe Bugel admitted that he is "concerned" with the health of RG Randy Thomas.
Thomas is still having problems with the knee he had scoped in May, and isn't practicing. "I'm concerned about Randy," Bugel said. "Randy's had some problems." Thomas' loss could be devastating for an ultra-thin offensive line
Profootballtalk.com hears that Jason Campbell is "taking charge like never before" at Redskins training camp.
Contract year. Campbell is also likely motivated by the Skins' attempts to upgrade over him. PFT says he's "yelling at teammates and grabbing them in the huddle" when needed. This sounds nice, but Campbell is going to need to be just as aggressive in the passing game to be a true fantasy asset.
Devin Thomas came up limping after catching a ball from Colt Brennan on Thursday morning.
Thomas came out of the trainer's tent with his leg wrapped. After practice coach Jim Zorn said the team is just being cautious. Thomas had already missed a couple of practices with a tweaked hamstring this summer
Santana Moss was held out of Thursday afternoon's practice with a hamstring tweak.
The injury isn't considered serious, but anytime "hamstring" is mentioned in the same sentence with Santana Moss it's cause for pause. He's likely to return to practice Friday. We'll update if the tweak becomes a lingering issue
The Redskins will hold Clinton Portis, Santana Moss and Albert Haynesworth out of their intrasquad scrimmage Saturday.
The team is just being extra-cautious. Moss has a tweaked hamstring and Haynesworth has dealt with pain in his knee, but neither injury is considered serious.
Redskins WR Devin Thomas is sitting out Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage with a hamstring injury.
Despite his improved maturity and work ethic, Thomas still has to get over the injury hurdle. Beat writer Jason Reid believes Malcolm Kelly could leapfrog him for the starting flanker job if Thomas can't "seize the opportunity on a platter in front of him." Thomas remains the favorite as long as the injury doesn't linger.
Rookie LB Brian Orakpo shined during the Redskins' scrimmage Saturday.
Orakpo continues to learn the ropes of being a strong side linebacker after playing defensive end in college. Redskins coach Jim Zorn ran at him and showed him play action during the scrimmage and the coach was pleased with how he responded. He'll be on the field a ton this season.
Right guard Randy Thomas (knee) has resumed practicing at Redskins camp.
Washington can breathe a big sigh of relief. OLs coach Joe Bugel made it sound last week like Thomas might need more knee surgery, but the 33-year-old says he "just takes a little bit more time to warm than I used to."
Devin Thomas (hamstring) returned to practice Sunday, after missing the Redskins' intrasquad scrimmage Saturday.
Thomas now needs to keep his momentum going and stay healthy into September to lock up a starting job and offer some post-hype sleeper value. His hamstring has been a problem since spring OTAs. Otherwise, he's looked good.
