Cornelius Griffin is one of the Redskins that has already benefited from Albert Haynesworth's presence.

Griffin was often doubled by centers and guards before Haynesworth arrived. "Last year at halftime, my body felt like it was beat even though I went into the game with a lot of energy. (Double teams) can take a lot out of you," Griffin said. He has eight tackles and a sack so far this season.

Jason Campbell (foot) was limited in Redskins practice Wednesday, but is still expected to start against the Lions.

"He did all the things that he could (in the workout)," said coach Jim Zorn, who held Campbell out of "some of the movement plays." His matchup is swell on paper, but Campbell is only worth using in two-QB leagues.

Clinton Portis was limited in Redskins practice Wednesday with an ankle injury.

Portis will likely be "probable" on Friday's injury report, but he's not producing (141 rushing yards, three catches, no TDs) and will not benefit from the season-ending loss of RG Randy Thomas. At least the Skins face Detroit.

Malcolm Kelly has not been a big part of the Redskins' game plan in the red zone.

It's a surprise because Kelly's biggest asset is his size (6'4/227). The 'Skins were inside the Rams' 11-yard line three times in Week 2 and didn't score a touchdown. For now, there are no signs the Redskins will go out of their way to get Kelly more involved.

Redskins signed LB Alvin Bowen to their practice squad.

The 2008 fifth-rounder tore his ACL in training camp last summer. Just released from the Bills practice squad this week, he'll help out on special teams for the Redskins if he's activated later in the year

Redskins coach Jim Zorn insists that he attempted to get Santana Moss more involved in Week 2, but he's not ready to force the ball against double teams.

"I can just tell you we're trying," Zorn said. "Our effort is there." This is turning into a Lee Evans situation for Moss, who is facing constant double teams with defenses showing no respect for the other receivers. The 'Skins desperately need Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas to emerge as a reliable second option.

All signs point to Portis playing this week, and he has a nice matchup against the Lions. Check Friday's official injury report to make sure he's probable.

"His ankles have been sore," coach Jim Zorn said. "We've got many (other backs) to choose from, but I expect Clinton be out there ripping around." However, Zorn revealed that Portis has bone spurs in both ankles, which is a bad sign for a back with over 2,000 carries on his resume. Portis is a must-start against the Lions, but the injuries threaten to haunt him all year.

Jason Campbell (foot, probable) took most of the reps in Friday's practice and will start in Week 3 against Detroit.

"It's a whole lot better," Campbell said. "I rested it a little and it got better during the week. It's good." Campbell added that he will not hesitate to scramble on his slightly sprained foot should the opportunity arise.

Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth was carted off the field in the second quarter Sunday with a hip injury.

Haynesworth could put no weight on his right leg and he was assisted to the cart. He left the field in a ton of pain with a towel over his head, in obvious disappointment. We are pretty sure that it's a serious injury.
