Clinton Portis suffered a minor calf injury in Sunday's loss to the Lions.

Portis missed time late in the fourth quarter with the injury, but coach Jim Zorn said he's "doing well" the day after. Portis already has bone spurs in both ankles. He can ill-afford another injury

Updating a previous item, Albert Haynesworth was in Tennessee Monday to tend to a personal matter and not to get an MRI on his hip.

Haynesworth suffered a strained glute muscle on his right side in Week 3 and is expected to play against the Bucs on Sunday. He was carted off the field in the first half against the Lions but returned and finished the game

Redskins beat writer Jason Reid doesn't believe Clinton Portis will reach 1,000 rushing yards this season.

Portis has a reputation for malingering in practice, but the bone spurs in both ankles have been extremely painful. Portis is reportedly "doing things he has never done in an effort to remain in the lineup." The 2,100 career carries are taking a serious toll on his body, and he's now in obvious decline.

Jason Campbell says he wants to get Malcolm Kelly more involved, but "you can't force it."

Force it? We're pretty sure Kelly isn't getting bracketed like he's Steve Smith or something. Clearly, it has more to do with Kelly's separation skills. He has just six catches for 65 yards on the season as a starter.

Lol, Campbell forced it all the time against the Lions. Threw to him in triple coverage. Twice.

Kelly is still learning. I think him and Thomas will be good as soon as we get a good QB
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!

I still like Campbell as a QB let him get some solid WR.

Clinton Portis (ankles, calf) missed Redskins practice Wednesday.

Portis has bone spurs in both of his ankles and tweaked his calf in the Skins' Week 3 loss to Detroit. He's expected to play Sunday against the Bucs, but is averaging just 3.9 yards per carry with no scores through three games.

An MRI on Albert Haynesworth revealed only a "little strain" in the $100 million defensive tackle's hip.

"I suspect by the end of the week he'll be out to practice," coach Jim Zorn said. Expect Haynesworth to start against the Bucs' sputtering running game

Clinton Portis admitted he played through ankle pain in the first two weeks of the season, but said that right now his ankles "don't have any pain."

Portis still sat out practice Wednesday with a "calf contusion" as the Skins prepared to take on the Tampa and the league's No. 31 rush defense. It looks like a tasty matchup for Portis, but last week's game against the Lions was as well. Coach Jim Zorn called five runs and 13 pass plays in the first half of that game.

Redskins SS Chris Horton has been benched in favor of Reed Doughty.

Horton won the job over Doughty early in the offseason and was expected to be solid in run support, but the Skins are giving up 127.7 rushing yards per game right now. "Reed's actually played better the last couple of weeks," defensive coordinator Greg Blache said.

Jason Campbell said Thursday that his left ankle is still sore, but that he will play Sunday against the Bucs.

Campbell said the ankle was worse against Detroit last week when he threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, so he's not worried about it. The Redskins went with a ridiculously pass-heavy attack against the Lions, but that philosophy may change Sunday against the Bucs considering the results last week. Campbell is a QB2

Clinton Portis (calf, ankles) missed practice again on Thursday.

Coach Jim Zorn characterized the calf contusion as minor earlier in the week, so we're expecting Portis to play against the Bucs. We rank him as the 13th best running back this weekend in a tasty matchup, but check back on Friday to make sure he practices.

Albert Haynesworth (hip) missed practice again on Thursday.

The Redskins defense would take a hit if Haynesworth can't go on Sunday. With Derrick Ward struggling through a knee injury,

Clinton Portis (calf, ankles) returned to practice Friday.

Portis often plays on Sundays despite missing practices early in the week. Though he's been a plodding disappointment in the first three weeks, the Bucs' No. 31 ranked run defense offers a prime opportunity get in the end zone for the first time this season.

Updating a previous item, Clinton Portis (calf, ankles) did not practice on Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

"Fifty-fifty," coach Jim Zorn said. "I..want to be smart in how we deal with him." Ladell Betts and Marcus Mason shared first-team reps throughout the week. Zorn added that Mason will definitely be active Sunday, indicating that the Skins aren't confident Portis will make it the whole game even if he starts. Portis would be hard to sit if he's active against the Bucs' 31st-ranked run defense, but we won't know his status until about 12ET Sunday.
