I fear there being quite a few votes split between Griffin, Richardson, and Luck. Mostly Richardson and Griffin, but all it takes is a few idiots who think Luck is deserving and the usual contingent who always vote for the best player in the titlw game to have Richardson inch by RG III. I don't think it's written in stone, I'd like to think Griffin will win it. But I'm pessimistic because it's college football and it's an award.

Should we get a poll up now that the finalists have been revealed?

It makes sense to me. Let's recap what you have written, shall we?

Larry: Mathieu is not a Heisman candidate because he's not even the best corner back on his own team!
Me: His candidacy has little to do with his skills a corner back
Larry: Don't care, he's not Heisman material, however he can win the Thorpe.

As far as his Heisman candidacy is concerned you should compare his season to Woodson's. You'd be surprised

              Not quite that, friend-o.

Mathieu is not a Heisman candidate, IMO, because he, as a cornerback, is not even the best on his team...its true. Would you say that Mo Claiborne as a corner isn't better than Mathieu?

That doesn't mean Mo Claiborne is a better defensive playmaker or special teams player or impacts the game in the same way Mathieu has that would win him an award like the Thorpe, although I think both could win the award and I'd think both are worthy candidates. There are other factors outside of covering ability...all of which Mathieu excels at...but, because he's not a complete player and doesn't affect the game in every facet like a Woodson (both excelled as defensive playmakers and special teamers - but Mathieu didn't play offense and as a corner, wasn't as good)...which, IMO, is a standard set for a defensive player to be in the running.

Now, he was given a slot in the top five, congrats to him, but I just don't think he's a worthy candidate. Mathieu over Barkley? C'mon son.

To dumb it down for ya, bruh...

              Mo Claiborne
              + Cover Skills

              Tyrann Mathieu
              + Defensive Playmaking
              + Special Teams Play

              Charles Woodson
              + Cover Skills
              + Defensive Playmaking
              + Special Teams Play
              + Played on offense

              See the difference, bruh?

I have already agreed that he is.

The Thorpe is awarded to the best DB in America. Strictly by that criteria I'd have to go with Claiborne given that, as we've established, he is a better defensive back than Mathieu. Anyway, I think you are over stating the offensive contributions made by Woodson that year. He caught 12 passes. Big deal. Mathieu has scored more touchdowns.

Anyway, I don't even think Mathieu should win. He is 4th on my ballot of finalists, but I don't think it was out of the question that he was invited.

                  :whut:
The Heisman is all about stats and lol @ Mo not having any special teams plays. It's not like Mo didn't have a big kickoff return against West Virginia or anything. Woodson only had one TD on special teams.

What Mathieu being invited tells me...this year sucked in regards to quality candidates. Everyone has warts. He probably got some 3rd Place votes from some people. Hopefully he cut into Trent Richardson's vote, because that fuck face doesn't deserve the trophy either.

Gimme Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III and I don't think the award is a sham.

Absolutely the weak field helped Mathieu out. It also helped that his four biggest games were bookended at the start and end of the year, in nationally televised contests with the most eye balls. He was a non factor in about 5 straight games but again, made the plays when the most people were watching.

This is a down year for candidates and the award has always been based off of goofy criteria like the nebulous "Heisman moment" ... So why not give the kid a free trip?

RGIII is who I hope wins. Luck is my no. 2 so less of a problem if he wins. Richardson or Ball (no chance) would be a sham, lol.

Collin Klein deserves more love than Ball.

Blick...when I saw Miami v. K-State...it was the first time I saw Klein...I thought his success there was just a product of Miami making mediocre QBs look good...

But I saw K-State several times throughout the year...and bruh, that kid is a baller. Gets it done ridiculously ugly, but he can ball and just wills his team.

I definitely feel you on Klein getting some love. I like what he did this year.

Yes, extremely ugly, but gets it done. Those long strides throw people off. He's like an awkward, lanky, poor man's Tebow...or a slower, rugged version of Matt Jones.

His style definitely isn't sexy and that hurt his recognition nationally this year.

RGIII is phenomenal, and should probably take home the Heisman, but I'm really tired of the media sucking him off with the "look what he did for BAYLOR...he put Baylor ON THE MAP" shit.

Baylor was picked 6th in the Big 12 pre-season. K-State was 8th. I guarantee Baylor has more talent across the board than K-State. Klein just went 10-2 with a bunch of 2 and 3 star Kansas hayseeds. He was just one rushing TD shy of tying the Big 12 single season record held by Ricky Williams. He was 4th in the nation in carries, as a fucking QB. He literally put the team on his back in every game this year and took more punishment than any player I can remember in a long time, and took it all in stride like a fucking boss.

Without Klein, and without old Bill scheme doctoring the shit out of everything, K-State isn't far off from being 2-10 Kansas.

But anyway, I understand why Klein isn't getting much love. He can't throw worth a damn. He runs boring QB dives for 4 yards a pop. The other QB's are undoubtedly above him.

But Klein definitely meant more to his team than Montee Ball did to Wisconsin.
