A better analogy would be you creating a company. Then hiring someone else to run it. This person hires people who during their time there commit crimes. He knows that the crimes are being committed and hides this fact from you, and never lets it be known that this is happening. Then one of the people gets busted, and the shit hits the fan. Everyone you have at the top of this company is involved, and you are now finding out the severity.

In reality, this is a criminal case. This isn't lack of institutional control. This is a bunch of grown men getting together, allowing a pedophile do as he pleases.

Here's my biggest complaint about how people reacted initially and are still in ways reacting. You really didn't know/think that Paterno had total power over that program and University? You really needed all of this to come out to realize the demi-god status he was allowed on that campus?

That's why NAHSTE, I and a few others took the immediate stance of Paterno didn't do enough because there's simply no rational way to think that someone with that amount of power would: A) not know of the crimes B) not put a total stop to it if/when he wanted to.

You can look back at numerous non-child rape cases over the past 15 years to know what type of status Paterno had. From him being fired, saying no and getting his job back, to campus crimes being covered up, etc. it shouldn't have taken a 250 page report for you to assume that Paterno had way too much power over that University.

Had he used his power and done the right thing in 1998, he would have been a bigger hero. school-sanctioned serial child rape = not punishable by the NCAA

This report shows while he may have done a lot of wonderful things, he was an enabler in things well beyond Sandusky. He was a constant burden to authorities of the University in disciplinary manners regarding his players.

Bingo. The biggest issue is Sandusky, but there is more than that in this report. The report clearly shows how out of control college football coaches who win a lot of games can be. It's a warning to all of college athletics and a big reason why I think the NCAA has to do SOMETHING in the wake of this. Maybe not death penalty but something has to be done at the top level of college athletics.

I think I posted that right after he was fired. I was pretty pissed off and I was venting. But I'm fairly sure I calmed down after that and tried to be a little more level headed.
