I have no problems with the Dolphins cutting him because they don't like his personality or all the attention. I have a problem with them cutting him after his first (alleged) criminal offence without the presumption of innocence.

Frankly, Philbin and the Dolphins' brain trust had to know what they were getting into with Johnson when the signed him. He escaped the Belichick personality prison and was due to go nuts. They had to know that.

But again, innocent until proven guilty. Without that, what are we as a society?

This isn't the legal system. He was hired on the basis that if he fucked up in even the slightest of ways, he'd be cut. He did, so he was.

But, again, we don't even know if he fucked up in the "slightest of ways."

He got charged, yes, but does that qualify?

              Yes, getting arrested qualifies.

I understand your viewpoint, seriously, but many arrests have been made with absolutely no merit. I'm not saying Johnson's is one of those arrests ... but, again, the guy has no criminal past whatsoever. One charge combined with a quirky personality doesn't make someone guilty.

He was cut exactly because of his troubled past (granted no legal woes) and the fact the new coaching staff didn't want to deal with any extra bs (hard knocks notwithstanding). Chad putting himself in a situation where he ends up cuffed and in jail, I'd be surprised if he wasnt cut.

Honestly Empire, I don't even know why they signed him in the first place. If Philbin wanted a no-name team-first organization, why sign Chad Johnson?

As an Eagles' fan, it pains me to say this - but look at the Giants. They stay in-house. Other than Lawrence Taylor (who was absolutely worth anything off the field), it's hard to remember a controversial Giant ... or a high-profile free agent they've signed.

Good point. Assuming he was on board with the signing.

Plaxico? He turned out to be a great signing even with the shooting.

Does Jeremy Shockey or Plaxico Burress count?

Honestly, forgot about Plaxico ... but his off-field shit happened way after the Super Bowl win - and, seriously, I can't think of the Shockey stuff. Nothing he did ever affected that team in a big way IMO.

I think his big mouth got in the way of Eli's development. Tiki too. Eli showed he had balls after Tiki left and stepped up to the plate when Shockey left.
