Manning's first pass was a TD to marvin harrison (or reggie wayne, i forget which one) on a 5 yd slant that he took 50+ to the house....... in preseason.... which everyone reacted to the same way they did to Luck's... i dont give a shit if it's preseason, Luck looked damn impressive yesterday and made a variety of throws look easy...

You being serious with the Reggie Wayne comment? Reggie Wayne came out of college in 2001. Peyton was the first overall pick in 1998. My math isn't that great though.

Didn't we already know all of this, though? I'm just laughing at the idea that we needed a preseason game to validate our opinion on him. If you've ever seen him play even once you already know he is incredibly polished and has great touch. It's kind of silly really to alter your opinion of any player based on or game, especially a preseason game. He is a gifted passer with the tools to be a great NFL quarterback.

I'll take "things we already know" for 1000, Atlas.

he hadn't done it against "NFL defenses".... i put it in quotes b/c it was the Rams, and thus, apply the term very loosely... even still, they are better than any Pac12 D he's faced in his career...

But the fundamental act of throwing an 18 yard pass to the sidelines is the exact same, no matter the level of play or the caliber of the opposing defense. He has superb touch and accuracy when given time to throw, and a window to throw through. But again, we knew that already.

The true test will be how quickly he can make his reads when he faces a fierce pass rush, but that's not likely to happen against a team three weeks into training camp who is still installing their scheme ...

I'm not trying to be a homer or anything, but I doubt Luck puts up the numbers that the ol' ginger the Bengals drafted last year did.

                  3,398 Yards, 20 TD/13INT....And a playoff birth.

Jesus Christ, what a terrible thread.

Football is the only sport where you would see a thread like this. Nobody ever says, "OMG guys, did you see Bryce Harper go deep in that Grapefruit League game today!!?", or "Wow, John Wall lit up the Bucks for 18 in that exhibition action!".

Preseason, A FUCKING SCREEN PASS, nobody should care except for Colts fans, and even they shouldn't really give that much of a shit.

Eh, I think that happens a lot actually. Spring training performances get over hyped every year. But point stands, these mufuckas be dumb.

Yeah, lead story on SportsCenter, right?

I don't recall a single Spring Training performance ever being talked about on this level. Ever.

Well that is a whole other topic that deals with how ESPN exists solely to cover ESPN now, not sports, but yes I tend to agree. It's completely stupid and needless, and yet here we are.

Congratulations on being the lowest common denominator that ESPN gears its coverage to. I'm sure you feel proud.

BTW, what'd you think of that House of Payne episode last night?

I know you're a baseball nut, but like it or not.. the NFL is king in the United States. And yeah, more people probably care about how Andrew Luck does in his first game as a pro over a Sunday game between the Braves and Mets.

Considering Luck had a ton of hype coming into the year + football being the most popular sport... uh yeah.. they're leading off with that.

Again, doesn't matter if its preseason or the St. Louis Rams, Luck played exceptionally well. And I guarantee if he stunk up the place, you'd be one of many laughing at him and saying "Oh I guess cutting Peyton Manning really paid off! LOLOLOL!"
