If we start playing the "what if" game, what if Tom Brady doesn't get bailed out with the tuck rule or his kicker misses the FG's that won their Super Bowls? I bet if we start digging, a lot of players that are held up as elite were just one or two critical plays (that they might not have even been involved with) from being thought of as only good QB's.

What if David Tyree doesn't trap that hail mary on the side of his helmet? There was nothing inherently clutch about that play, he just heaved the ball up in a situation where an INT was no different than taking the sack or throwing it away. Is he still CLUTCH if he's 1-1?

If anything, it was Tyree who made the clutch play.

Not to mention Eli threw a game-ending interception that Asante Samuel dropped.

I'm just saying I don't give a fuck who anyone not even Troy Aikman thinks is elite if his or her entire argument is about winning a Superbowl. I don't understand this age-old debate about how x/y plays like an elite player game after game then some fud always says they haven't won the Superbowl so they aren't elite, then everyone's talking about whether a ring makes someone elite (which it doesn't). We all watch football games, it's truly not hard to evaluate a player, especially a quarterback, if you have just a little bit of a football brain. And for the record, I'm not saying you do not.

It doesn't make shitty safeties who give up weak touchdowns elite. It doesn't make offensive linemen who give up multiple sacks in a season elite. It doesn't make members of a defensive front seven which has the worst run defence in the league elite. So why quarterbacks?

I will say that it puts you in elite company but doesn't necessarily make you elite. You still need the high level of performance over a period of several seasons to become truly elite with or without rings.

I totally get the rings argument though. I just don't think it is the only thing you can look at.

at the bottom of page 1 , I said i'm pretty sure his quote is referring to Joe Flacco and that Joe is Elite because he is/has been a winner.

i'm sure he was talking about the commentators bringing up the topic before tonights game considering all the critiqueing of Flacco
