Question: If the schedule increases to 18 games do the players see an increase in contract worth or does their weekly check just get smaller instead?

      Million dollar question.

As it stands now, I believe they get 17 paychecks for each week of the season. Since they are paid based on yearly salaries, I would think they would just get 'x' amount of smaller checks.

Its the overall % of the pie that may be shifted and important. Maybe Im wrong but NFL cant simply expand to 18 games , last CBA left a loophole in which NFL would have to convert two pre season games to regular season games to get a the 18. But that would require NFLPA approval and still mean money shifting.
Best reason to have a license.

I can totally see the NFLPA only agreeing to expanded schedules on the condition that there'd have to be an across-the-board 11% increase in pay for every single player contract because "oh now you're asking more of the players". Then the owners saying "fuck that."

          Then nothing changes.

Yep, and they still wouldn't make the playoffs in this format.

Great. In 5 years, there might be no sport for me to watch except fucking soccer.

Dear God, please don't let this happen.

Sports commissioners nowadays are nothing but highly-paid errand boys for the owners.
