I'm not sure gay people should be compared to black people. It's a very difficult parallel.

But the first "out" athlete in the NFL will face hate from the fans, teammates ... but because it's 2014 and not the mid-1940s, it's obvious Michael Sam is not Jackie Robinson. That said, I draw the parallel because Robinson's battle became much easier as more Negro League players entered MLB. Of course racism still exists today, and so will homophobia 50 years from now ... but it takes someone to get the system to change.

This should neither be a liberal or conservative issue. Both agree with personal liberty. How someone chooses to live their life legally is personal liberty. If your 24-year-old male friend wants to marry another 24-year-old guy, it's personal liberty - something both sides say they favor.

Michael Sam seems like he'll be a 3rd-5th round pick in April. Doubt this plays against him at all...as usual, as long as he's healthy and doesn't crap out in workouts, he'll have a role on someone's 53-man roster.
