as a society we have come along way with gay rights and equal rights ect, but the NFL is a private fraternity and you just know players will take issue with this guy being in their locker room.

And people are forgetting the owners. there is a reason these old money owners only allow certain types of people in their group. they are old school bigots by nature and will have a huge problem with a gay man on their team.

while i applaud this player coming out, he should know he is no longer a football player, he is a gay rights activist and that dont pay the bills.

i do think the player will make a team because some owner is going to see it as $$$ and try and take advantage of that...like the jets love to do
There was a Redskins O-lineman that played over 10 years and came out after he retired. Never a problem. Only problem that will occur is when a guy like Jonathan Vilma acts like a dumbass and makes a problem.

aso, nobody knew that player was gay until after he stopped playing. there are no openly gay players in the NFL.

not knowing you are playing with a gay man is different then knowing you are playing with a gay man

He told the entire team in August, dipshit. Was an open rumor on campus all year, the school paper even came close to running an interview with him about it but he decided against it.

Anyway, gonna steer clear of this thread from here because VSN lacks the intellect to treat this subject with its proper nuance. Have fun in the playpen.

Not true. The 1993 Houston Oilers had two gay men who were open with their teammates. That article is here.

Yes, these were openly gay players. Their teammates knew, so that sounds pretty open to me.

Gay team-mates was an issue back in the 60's. To say players aren't known to be gay in the locker room today is naive. Lombardi is famous for making his locker-room friendly to the gay athletes. If you were a Packer, he didn't care about your sexual preference, and he made sure everyone in the locker room treated there fellow team-mate like family. Back in the 60's, players knew about there gay team-mates. Lombardi was way ahead of his time when it came to social issues.

no, he's famous for winning championships. LOL at being ahead of your time for tolerating 1 gay guy on your team.

One gay guy on the 60's packers? So who was it since you know so much about that team? Lombardi was also famous for his social issues, both gay and civil rights.

he's only famous for that now because you saw a stupid retrospective about one gay player on the NFL network a week ago. ..I'm referring to Smith, not Kopay

who was it ? I don't know and I don't care who it was which proves how unimportant it/he was.
oh look, we found a gay player we can do a story on.....and by the way, what happened to this gay player ? he died of aids.
such a unique uplifting story that proves you are free to do what ever makes you happy ...?

what happened to the gay Los Angeles Dodger who invented the high five...he died of aids...
whats great about any of that ? its all very dark and sad. Choosing to be gay...there is nothing positive about it.

It isn't so much stupidity and close mindedness as it is lacking the exposure and succumbing to stereotypes. More ignorance than stupidity.
