I dont think its fair to say he cant develop into a decent QB when hes only going to be going into his 3rd season. I think he'll be alright.
I don't like making excuses for Russell but you can't ignore the fact that he came out after his junior season and missed all of training camp going into his rookie season and had a coaching change 3 games into his second season.

He's young, inexperienced, and plays for one of the worst teams in football but still managed to take care of the football. Don't forget that the Raiders started 2 rookies at WR last season and a 2nd year tight end while playing with one of the worst pass-blocking OLines in the league.

How anyone thinks he is going to get worse is beyond me. He can't get any worse. The longer he is in the same system with the same coaches and playing with the same players he will only get better. The Raiders need to improve on the OL and keep him in the same system so he can learn it, develop, and gain some confidence.

russell wasnt even good on a super talented LSU team, he has always under performed and will do the same in the pros

he became a number 1 pick by throwing the ball 60 yards over the heads of Norte Dames slow ass DBs in a bowl game, woo woo!

            JR at LSU:

Great, back to this shit again?

We are starting to run in circles. I can't talk to you anymore, you are too stupid to converse with as you just keep repeating yourself over and over again like some old babbling moron.

I'm convinced that your brain is just too slow to allow you to hold an intelligent discussion. You have no facts or any data to support anything you say, you're just a bitter old man that hates the Raiders.

I really thought people around here were just joking around when they talked about how you are one of the dumbest members on this site. Now I know that they weren't.

by people you mean you and possibly that stoner rossette stoned i assume. the problem here is not my intellegence, but the fact that you seem to think spinning numbers can make russel a good qb and make the raiders not suck, both of which aren't gonna happen. thats the the way to go out though, be as wrong as you can be and just call people stupid to cover it up, works for politicians why not for message boards right?

I don't give a shit, about what the bum did in college. Explain to me why he can't throw a pass in the NFL. He's supposed to have this great arm, but he can't even throw the deep ball in the NFL.

When throwing passes of 10 yards or less, his stat line reads:
                    142-213 for 1140 yards, 7 TDs, 2 INTs

                    Passes 11-20 yards:
                    45-111, 905 yards, 3 TDs, 3 INTs

                    Passes 21-30 yards:
                    9-27, 267 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs

                    Passes 31+ yards:
                    2-17, 111 yards, 1 INT.

All Jamarcus Russell does is throw 5 yard passes to his RBs and TEs. If you're happy with your QB doing that, then I hope you're happy with last place.

The OLine has to block long enough for a QB to take 5 and 7 step drops to allow deep routes to develop.

2 rookie WRs who can't beat press or get any separation + the worst passing blocking tackles in the league = no time to throw deep routes.

And I'd bet good money that most quarterbacks' completion percentage significantly decreases as the passes get deeper for obvious reasons.

Even a fucking baboon could understand this. You guys have no concept of analyzing players or breaking them down with any logic, it's just "he can't throw deep passes because he fucking sucks!!"

I coach 12 year olds that have higher football IQ's than most of you.

This is not a very hard concept to understand. WRs never open = throwing the ball into fuck knows where as long as its not a pick. No, Russell's not fucking Tom Brady but you're talking like he's throwing McNabb grounders at his WRs.

He completed 67.8% of his passes his junior year at LSU.

He's had accuracy problems in the NFL, no doubt, but at least check your facts before you start spewing bullshit like the rest of these fools.

Yeah he completed a high percentage of his passes his junior year but they also took the ball out of Russell's hands for the last half of the year and turned into a run first team. If you look at the stats when Russell threw the ball 30+ times a game in college he had problems. LSU overcame this by running the ball more and having Russell play a lot in 4-5 WR sets. Spreading the defense out and completing easy passes to WR's underneath. Honestly for all Russell's arm strength he rarely threw deep in college. He did have accuracy issues in college but LSU ddi a good job planning around them and hiding them and putting JR in situations where it wasn't as much of an issue.

IIRC Russell wasn't even the best QB in the SEC that season. It was Andre Woodson.

Russell has started 16. Alex Smith played twice as long as JR before the 49ers gave any other QBs a chance.
I'm just warning everyone that this is gonna be a LONG thread because I have to respond to every dumbass thing Tailback U says.

LOL at your response. Smith actually started his rookie year, like every #1 overall pick has done with the exception of JaMarcus Russell. OBVIOUSLY that is going to result in Smith having started more games than Russell...because Russell didn't even start his rookie year!! Is that supposed to be a point in Russell's favor, that he sat on the bench behind Andrew Walter?

Smith had an awful rookie year, as did Russell. Smith had an ok 2nd year, which people probably thought was better than it actually was because they were used to Smith sucking...as did Russell. Smith continued to suck in his 3rd year, and the Niners cut bait before mid-year. I'd say thats a damn fine job by the Niners organization admitting their mistake and moving on.

Do you honestly think the Raiders are going to permanently bench Russell by Week 7 this year?
