A lightweight bout between Clay Guida and final WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis is being targeted for UFC 130 or UFC 131.

Sources close the bout informed Heavy.com of the news on Monday night.

Pettis was scheduled to receive a UFC title shot against the winner of the Frankie Edgar/Gray Maynard bout from UFC 125. The fight ended in a draw, however, and Pettis was removed from the title shot in favor of a third bout between Edgar and Maynard. Pettis opted to take a fight instead of waiting on the sidelines for eight to ten months.

Guida is coming off a submission victory over Takanori Gomi at UFC 125. The popular lightweight has strung together three straight victories and is nearing title contention for the first time in his UFC tenure.

It wouldn't be a WEC title fight. So why would you expect it to be 5 rounds?

Aldo was just awarded the UFC FW belt while never fighting in the UFC, why is Pettis different? He should be fighting for the title against the champ, Frankie Edgar

Aldo was awarded the UFC FW belt and Cruz was awarded the UFC BW belt because they are the champions of the new division. Pettis is just the last WEC champ, the title is dead. Same as it was when Hendo defended the PRIDE belts against Rampage and Silva.

As for Maynard/Pettis, you can argue for either man. Hopefully Edgar & Pettis win b/c that would be a fun fight. However, Edgar/Maynard have unfinished business (hey, there's the PPV name )

Aldo & Cruz are the champions of new divisions in UFC. Pettis joined an existing division.

Your look at the draw is one reasonable way of looking at it. Another is, a draw leaves both fighters in a place where they REALLY want to kick the others ass in a 3rd fight. Unsettled business, etc. All Pettis has to do to get the title shot now is, win one fight.

I'd rather see Edgar/Maynard 3 right now so who cares if it's "okay." Acting like Pettis' one shot at glory was shot in the head. All the guy has to do to get the shot is beat Guida. If he can't, shouldn't be in the title picture anyway.

I feel for Pettis, but as a fan, I'd rather see Maynard/Edgar 3. Also very interested in seeing Guida/Pettis so it's a win-win for me.
