C'mon now, Rude deserved at least a 6.5 if not a 7. I mean, he got an awesome match out of Warrior!

Injuries did him in. At his best, sure...probably a 6.5.

I'm with larry, I always found his work to be boring and bland.

He had a bunch of stinkers in WCW vs. Ricky Steamboat, Sting, etc. He had a match at Halloween Havoc one year against Masa Chono ('92? '93?) that was one of the worst matches I have ever seen between two competent workers.

I'm also trying to use the whole 10-scale. Not afraid to throw out 1's 2's and 3's and like to use the middle of the order to actually show guys who were average.

I'm really just rating top guys or guys that just come up in my mind...the more average a guy is, the more average scores he gets.

Rude, to me, was the epitome of average in terms of his work. I'm with you.

At various points of his career, i'd even go 4.

World Class/NWA Tag Title era: 6
            WWF: 5
            WCW: 4

              CM Punk

Physical Appearance / Look / Character - 6.5/10. One of the few guys in this era of wrestling that has a legitimate unique look to him and a really unique character. Bumped to a 6.5 after deliberation.
Ability to Talk/Sell Yourself - 8.5/10. Well, we just saw what he was capable of a week ago. He can really put together a passionate promo like few others.
In-Ring Work - 9/10. One of the best in the biz at the moment. Haven't really seen a "bad" match...still waiting on a classic on the WWE stage. Had quite a few on the Indy level.

              TOTAL - 24/30

Disagree with that to a degree. Tons of guys are all tatted up, he changed his hair style so it's more generic. Not a lot about his look (beyond his tights/kickpads) is unique IMO.

Have you watched wrestling in the United States recently?

                  WWE
                  TNA
                  The Indy scene

Bro, filled with generic looking guys. Short cut, cut up, baby face...they are all over.

Punker is one of the few guys, IMO, with a look that is unique in the business right now.

                    Randy Orton

Look/Gimmick: 5. Looks like every single guy that the WWE has called up from developmental the last ten years. Vanilla as it gets. Fans don't react to him, but the company insists he's a star, so they put him on the taped show where they can pipe in sound to make him seem like one.

Promo: 2. Talks...really...slow.......kinda sounds retarded. Acts badly. Makes weird faces. Has odd mannerisms. Does a really lame Jake Roberts impression, but fails miserably in conveying the same type of cerebral creepiness. He's just..creepy, in a "keep him from your 16 year old daughter" way. A perfect gimmick for him would probably be a wrestling robot.

Work: 3. "Meh" is a word that comes to mind. Works even slower than he talks. Builds entire match around reverse chin locks, and the worst finisher ever, the over used RKO. Never had a match I would ever watch twice.

Surely Randy's absolutely hideous skull sleeve tattoos warrant him atleast a 6.

Blandy Boreton is the antithesis of what a pro wrestler should be, yet is exactly what the WWE looks for in an "entertainer". They are in a funk because of uninteresting dudes like him.

                          Bryan Danielson
                          Circa 2006-07, Ring of Honor

Look/Gimmick: 6 - Would be higher if not for his very generic look. If you were to just look at a picture of him, you wouldn't know how good he was. He was a pasty white guy with a shaved head (or maybe a lot of hair depending on the period) in maroon tights and boots. He gets points for the 'gimmick' where he was the guy who could "go" in any situation and was out to win at all costs. Particularly, he gets points for his heelish run because despite the fact he was beloved by the ROH crowd when he was champ, he could still pull some heel shit and get great heat (to a certain extent).

Promo: 7 - While he would never be compared to Hogan or HBK or Austin or Rock, he could do both heel and babyface well on the mic. He could make you consider him the most arrogant prick in the world or the bravest underdog willing to fight through hell. Despite working in front of hundreds to maybe 1500 people around the ROH loop, he made you believe he truly was the best wrestler in the world.

Work: 10 - call me a Dragon mark, but for a good chunk of time, he was srsly the best American wrestler. He had matches with a wide range of guys and they ranged from above average to great to holy shit that was fucking awesome. He could also do a wide range of styles ranging from mat based WRESTLING, to the hardcore blood and guts style to comedy to 60 minute draws to tags, etc. His match with KENTA at the 2006 Glory by Honor is the greatest live match I've seen.

                          23/30

That 10 is fair. He's an all time great if he retired tomorrow. Which he might as well do, since he doesn't exist for all intents and purposes.

Danielson, on this scale, IMO, rates awful.

His look is average or worse.
His ability to put himself over is probably average.
His work is a legit 10, and honestly, I'd probably want to bump him to an 11 or 12 just to boost the total. On a scale like this, he'd rate below a guy like Rick Rude, IMO.

You and I are definitely high end Heyman marks...

Do you know he absolutely LOVES Orton...probably not for what he is, but for what Heyman thinks he could make him?
